I'm realizing what a big boy he was and is! I didn'tbelieve my eyes until I saw the date on the pics: Aug. 4. He was bornJune 12.
10 lbs. isn't unusual for Pal females--it depends on the size of theirframes. Usually they top out around 11--but Tank was absolutelymassive. She lost a lot of weight with nursing, sharing food withbabies, etc., and she was still 11 lbs. or so. I'd guess her normalweight between 12 and 14.
I fed plain pellets, with a bit of oats and the occasional dried wholewheat bread chunk. But I'm talking only like 4 one-inch-long chunks fornine babies and mum to fight over. It was sooo funny. Tank would grabthe bread and run with her head up, keeping it just out of reach andscattering babies like bowling pins as she made for the temporary havenof the box. One would dive in after and she'd come flying out again.Or, even funnier: one baby distracted mum by leaping for her bread, while the other snuck a quick snack at the "milk bar". Poor Tank.
Oh yes, I gave some very limited greens too. If you have a good safe vit. supplement, it's not a bad idea.
I also don't feed hay in general, and usedstraw forbedding....so couldn't say anything about alfalfa from experience. I dolike marsh hay though for bedding now. Less dusty irritants, and edibletoo.
Good luck!! They'll be fine, you always do great.

P.S. HINT: they are very strong-willed and intelligent so might want tocorrect gently but firmly any defiance or aggression. Baby Pals areTROUBLE!!!
