My female dutch will be about 6 months on June 15th. I was planning on waiting until December when my husband is home from his year long deployment overseas as it is kind of hard for me to travel so far to get to the vet while I'm 8 months pregnant and on bedrest and not allowed to drive. But now I am worried that will be too long to wait, and I don't want her to experience any illnesses or a false pregnancy ): I also heard that female rabbits will start to spray which I didn't know and I REALLLLY don't want that. She hasn't really shown any signs of puberty and there have been no changes in her behavior since I got her at 6 weeks old. Any advice?

While you're on bed-rest is not the time to do any spaying. By Sept you'll know whether you want to wait until your husband is back or not. Just take care of yourself & your new baby.

Thank you for the response just didn't want to cause any harm to her. Luckily I found a woman in the area that does pet sitting and shehas agreed to take her to the vet for a small fee.

It's usually the males that you'll want to rush to the vet--the spraying being the worst thing. It doesn't hurt them to wait. Bonnie was over two and coal was around 8. Both came thru with flying colors. Mr. B was around 8 and so was Ted. Just because they can be done a 4 months doesn't mean they have to. We all take very good care of our bunnies, but if we aren't healthy, everyone suffers. Take care of yourself first and foremost.

Yes I understand. I wasn't going to put myself in any situation that would affect my pregnancy...just wanted to know how urgent it was so I could look into some options. What is the spaying procedure in terms of healing time?

Congratulation on the upcoming birth of your baby. Hoping all goes well for you.

Sounds like you already have some plans in motion. I was advised by my Rabbit Savvy vet that you can wait up to a year to spay or neuter. My first boy buns, I had done at 4-1/2 months. As you, I was afraid of the spraying and marking since both males and females do it. Also the territorial fighting due to hormones. As you have one bun, that part you don't have to worry about.

I do have an intact male, that I rescued. He's the sweetest thing. No aggression, and the only marking he does now, is out in his bunny run. I may possibly never get him neutered because of his sweet disposition. No dirty habits. Females should be spayed though. It is for health reasons that it should be done. As far as the "false" pregnancies, an intacted female will have them, but after reading what another poster wrote, it looks like spayed females could go through it. I guess it depends on how strong the urge to procreate is in the doe?

Lola will be fine. Nows the time to take care of you and the baby. Take care and again congratulations.

K:)

Thank you so much! And yes I was just worried about her starting to spray and getting more severe with the urine marking. She is still very sweet and has never bit me or anything or showed any signs of aggression. I read that females become very territorial of their cage...but she only makes honking noises at me when I clean her cage hehe she doesn't like it. Thank you for replying :)
