Does anyone have any ideas of what I can put ontop of the shiny linoleum tiles in Trix's new cage? it's reallyslippery and can be why she isnt going to the upper levels.....

Someone suggested peel-n-stick traction used for steps, but I am afraid she might eat it....

Ideas please!

Thanks!
Denise

What about sanding it to make it rough? You'd justneed to be sure and get all the dust off before letting her back in.
I read on the box that it can;t be sanded. I did some mroeresearch and they say that linoleum may contain some asbestos (!) andother fibers that can be released/exposed when you sand thetiles....SCARY!

I used pegboard on the shelves and ramps in twoof my NIC cages. It's thin pressboard and worksnicely. You can get it with or without holes cheap at HomeDepot or Lowe's. They will cut it for you or if you can cutit with a light saw.

I use it rough side up so my boys can get traction. I likethe kind with holes. It has ventilation and is less slippery.

This is the only pic I could find, but you get the idea.

I've had it in there for a LONG time. It's really durable. When it gets dirty, I take it out, sprayit with vinegar, brush, and let dry. It never warps orappears damaged, either.

No, not at all, but my two boys aren't big chewers.

It's so thin, it kind of lays in the grids, if you know what Imean. If you cut it to fit the space exactly, I don't thinkshe'll be able to get the edge up.

Even if she did, it's made from wood shavings, so I don't think it would hurt her.

That's such a great idea! i noticed how it fit exactly. Even if itdoesn't, if I get the one with holes in it, I can just thread a zip-tiethrough it and secure it to the cage itself.

Thank you!

Exactly! That's what I did for the ramps. I gotlarge bird ladders from Petco, put a piece of pegboard over them andzip-tied it on. Works like a charm. Mine like tohop up, but use the ramp for coming down.

Glad to help!

Oh wow...this is an awesome idea...I've beenlooking for something to make cleaning out the bottom floor of her cageeasier. Right now the base of her cage is the NIC cubes withstraw mats on top so she doesn't hurt her paws...but it makes cleaningdifficult (pieces of hay and such can't just be swept out...we haven'tbeen able to figure out what to do).

We're going various places to get the stuff for Flower's cage onSaturday...we're going to pick this up while we're at Home Depot, orsome such place, too. Thank you so much for sharing youridea!!

P.S. Trixie...I just asked you in the thread you posted withpics of her cage about that slipperiness. LOL...:)

...there's something fuzzy stuck to your peg board :?

I used pegboard in Tooties cage. One piece with holes and one piecewithout. She does fine on the side with the holes, but you should seethat big bunnie butt go sliding when she hits the side without.

Now that's FUNNY!!

AAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA! Good one, Jim D! lol

SO.....last night my hubby and I went to Home Depot and cut and boughtthe peg board for Trixie's cage....IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM!
This morning, I woke up and Trix was hangin' out in the penthouse of her bunny mansion! :bunnydance:

The peg board is PERFECT, and if you use it rough side up, not slipperyAT ALL! She doesn't even seem to be too into chewing it, much less thanthe linoleum!

THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH for the great idea, Laura! The peg boardis so inexpensive (it was like $10 for a HUGE piece) and VERYlightweight. The holes made it super easy to attach to the plywood andsides of the cage.....LOVE IT!

OOOOH...I'm so eager for our trips tomorrowaround town to get all of Flower's cage things...I can't wait to givethem both that pegboard. It'll solve SO MANYthings.

For one, Maisie has this habit of taking her mats off the top floor ofher cage, and then cannot walk on about half of it...not to mention herwanting to constantly move her litterbox around on the topfloor. If I have that pegboard underneath her mats, I won'thave to worry anymore! :D The goofball doesn't knowshe's shooting herself in the foot when she's throwing those matsaround! LOL!

Hee hee - yeah, he's a wool ball with legs. I just cut allthe matted fur off Toby's hips, but left the longer wool on the rest ofhis body. We're calling him "Poodle Butt" now. Itlooks so funny, but I can't bring myself to cut the nice woolthat'scovering the rest of him.

I'm so glad the peg board worked out for you, Denise, and Maherwoman, you'll love it too!

:)

Cute...I wouldn't be able to bring myself to cut all of it, either...it's so adorable!! :)

And I'm SURE I'll love the pegboard...thanks for the idea! :)
