Unfortunately, I need to find a home for our 2bunnies. Despite efforts trying to calm them down and get them used tous, they're still very high strung. My son wasgentlypettingmine today and he went berzerk. Growled and scratchedthe daylights out of him and me. I don't blame the bunnies at all but Ido believe there should be some degree of compatibility with animals tohumans. Here's2 pics of our beauties:

I'm coming to the conclusion our bunnies don't like having kids aroundthem since this happens frequently. These guys deserve a good home withsomeone who has the patience to work with them in a much more serenesetting. I feel awful but my goal is for the best intrest of thebunnies. We live near Erie PA. I'd be willing to drive any direction afew hours if anyone is interested. I'd prefer keeping them togethersince they're brothers and have been kept together since day one. Buti'll leave that up to you guys out there if you think they'd do fineseparated. They're constantly cuddling together.

Rabbits are very social animals with a strict hierarchy. Inthis case, they've taken advantage of your gentle nature and they haveestablished themselves on the throne. Unfortunately, theseanimals can be unpredictable and may not be safe to have aroundchildren.

You are right that the compatibility factor is very important inmatching pets with their owners. There is someone out therewho would make the perfect new "parents" for your rabbit, and there isalso a rabbit out there for you.

I wish I could find a bunny thatis compatable for our family. I would take it in a heartbeat. I reallyenjoy keeping them. Has anyone done any kind of trades? I feel stupidfor asking that but i truly mean it when I say i'm broken hearted andwould love to keep one if it was compatable. I want the bestenvironment for them.

It's difficult to assure a proper home forthem. People start out with good intentions, butmay not properly care for the rabbits.

How about constructing a nice outdoor pen for them where they can livein the company of each other without close human interaction?

I do have some little lop babies available if you'd like to come outsometime (I'm near Pymatuning Lake). You could bring yourrabbits out, and I could confirm sex and clip nails

I actually have considered doing just that. Myhusband has offered to make a pen but what about winter. We live in themiddle of a snow belt. I figured I'd post on here first before anythingelse.

They are pedigreed Hollands and average $25 forpets. I just took some photos last week and sent them out fordeveloping, so I should have them back sometime this coming week.

The rabbits fare well if the hutch is in a protected area and they havea box stuffed with hay that they can burrow in. The hay mustbe kept dry. In extremely cold weather, the hutch can bepartially covered with a tarp overnight to further protect from thewind.

Have the boys been neutered? About howold are they? I'm wondering if they are going through theteenage phase.

I have an extremely feisty lop (see the avatar)who was rehomed to meprimarily because of her attitutde. Several things haveworked for her - having free run of a room was the biggest attitudeadjuster. She is a big bunny and needs lots ofspace and exercise. She isn't fond of strangersandhas bitten 3 different people even after I warned them tonot try and pat the big grey bunny.

well if you want to keep the rabbits all youhave to do is keep on getting them out about an hour a day andeventually they will get tame. but if you don't wanna try that then thebunnies will be fine if they are seperted. because one of my rabbitshad some brothers and sisters and he got seperated from them and theyare about 5 1/2 years old now.

I'm in an even colder region than you, and mine are all outdoors. Dittowhat Pam says about the box. My hutches look like this, and they areout all year.

This is in early spring, everything looks scruffy out there, but the buns are quite snug and survived a cold winter.

Also wanted to put a plug in for Hollands: I have three, very loving and sweet.

I love good bunny pictures!Just wanted to put my 2 cents in also.. back when I had my1st rabbit, spottsie, well she loved being outside in her hutch.. shewould be out there all year long except in the dead of winter.. thenI'd bring her in and keep her in the basement in an enclosed room.. sheloved it for about a month.. then she got an attitude and wanted to beback outside.. *lol*

also I have 3 males and found that they're less aggressive sincethey've been neutered.. that's one of the reasons why I did it.. theystill don't get along enough to be out together tho.. long story..

anyways, if you can't keep them or build a hutch for them, I'd gladlygive them a home.. I have one bun "Snuggles" who's very mellow andloves people.. but he's my special care bun.. Needs his molars trimmedevery couple months which costs a couple hundred bucks every time.. myother two have bad attitudes sometimes but I couldn't trade any of mybuns.. love em too much.. they're my kids..

Ya know, I still have my hutch from when I had spottsie.. My dad and Ibuilt it about 12 yrs ago but it's still standing and looks good.. it'squite heavy tho.. I'd be willing to sell it to you or give you theplans for it if you'd like..

You can't really tell personalities when theyare little because they change so much when they hit bunnypuberty. Your best bet would be to go to a shelter and adoptan older one, that way it's personality shouldn't change too much.

No way they are dwarves. Their ears are much too long. I really have noidea what breed they are, but I can tell you you were misinformed.

Generally you have to wait till their teenage months or after to knowtheir real personality. Or until after they're spayed/neutered. You cansometimes tell behavioural traits, such as a digger or biter, but eventhen it can change as they get older. If they're not neutered, considerdoing that. It'll most likely calm them down.

I agree that the best route is to adopt a maturerabbit. A trial period may be necessary to let therabbit settle in and to see how it responds in the new environment.

I didn't think they were dwarfs either. I gotthese two from a humane society and the mother looked like a normalsized rabbit. I was thinking at the time that they didn't appear to bedwarfs.
