Hey this is Mat here. Michelles boyfriend I think her name is nzminilops on here.

She is away in the hospital and I am looking after the two rabbits. The girl one, I went to feed her this morning she had two dead baby rabbits buried in her poo tray. Both are dead and one has been eaten its only a head and a leg. Other one is a whole rabbit but it's dead and been bitten.

The boy rabbit was nutered on my birthday which was the 20th of september this year, so how did it happen?

Do I do anything for the mum rabbit or will she be ok? Im not good with the rabbits, i dont know how to hold them that well but I looked at her bottom end and its all clean.

I dont know how old the baby rabbits are. They both are same colour as mum and no fur but a kind of fuzz or something very short.

Regard
Mat

Hi April, I only see the two dead babies. Mum is good she is eating and playing and throwing a piece of cardboard in the air. Ive looked all through the cage and no other babies.

Yes she has pellets and water and hay Michelle says not too much pellets because shes grown up now so should I give her more?

Oh no, Mat, so sorry!

How's Michelle? (You can PM me if you can).

Is the mom eating, drinking and pooping?

How many hours has it been since you found them?

Has she had litters before do you know?

She may not be finished yet. Keep an eye on her very closely. Did she pull fur and put it in the litter box? If so, you may want to move it to another box, even a clean litter pan, in another area.

Keep us posted! (I'm sure our rabbitry experts will chime in soon).

Really hope Michelle is okay. :?

Umm if Michelle says not too much, i dont think you should give her anymore pellets.
Reply back with the questions pipp has asked, that would help people help you out more. Im sorry about the babies:?

Oh wow...Mat, I'm sorry you all are going through this rough time. I don't have much in suggestions and really don't know if there is anything todo with no more kits...just wanted to say I'm sorry and hope all goes well.

Ok this will take me a while I am a slow typer i'll write it like a list so it makes sense.

1. I came on here 20 minutes after I found them, i have them in a container in case i need to take pictures to show you
2. Both rabbits are in the same room of the house in different cages, they have met before for something called bonding Im not sure what that involved but she takes them outside to a pen to eat grass together but she always said it was safe
3. No way in hell this rabbit had babies before Michelle will be very upset, she treats them better than she treats herself and Im debating not to tell her at all. I bought this rabbit for her and its not that old I think about 7 months maybe
4. Mum is eating and going to the toilet she is very happy and jumping up and down and kicking out to the side
5 There is no mucky stuff anywhere like from when woman give birth

I have a question. Its very hot here today should I give her something to keep cool?

thankyou very much for your help April, Im very scared I dont want anything more to happen to upset Michelle I love her very much and I know how she loves her rabbits, i dont want to make her life any worse right now.

I believe the bun is a very small bunny, Netherland Dwarf I think. So only having 2 babies is normal for that size.

Keep her cage clean, and treat her like normal. Same amount of food, lots of hay and fresh water.

Things to watch for are puddles of blood or dripping blood, straining or looking like she's try to push something out. Both could be signs that she's got another baby stuck.

If she's happy, and acting like normal. No blood or straining, chances are she's okay.

Also watch her behaviour. If she starts hiding or acting out of character, then I would also be concerned.

It can be scary, but keep your calm. Try not to fuss over her too bad, as she'll pick up on your stress. So try not too worry too much.

Hi Mat, I'm sorry about the babies...

The boy bunny was neutered, but is still "functioning" for weeks afterwards. (Take a while for everything to shut off...) or the neuter wasn't done right and one side is still working.

The baby was probably eaten because it was already born dead. It's the mothers instinct to "clean up" anything that could be bad. (She cleaned up the "mucky stuff" already.) Don't blame yourself, you didn't do anything wrong.

As Aurora said, if she is acting normal, that's good. Keep an eye on her for any changes.

Please tell Michelle I'm so sorry.

Thanks your all so kind and patient. Sakura does look like a small rabbit but ive only ever seen small ones. i spent some time with her and she seems fine but i admit i dont spend much time with them normaly anyway. So am basing it on my guessing of rabbits. There are tufts of fur in the cage.

She bit me like she always does when i see her just now that must be a good sign.

Right now she is chewing on an apple tree twig.

NO blood on her bottom its spotlessly clean.

hi again rabbiteers well my evening being dr Mat is going well and Sakura is being a good rabbit and doing rabbity things. This was really stressful phew. Im relieved she is being normal.

I have buried the baby rabbits and felt they needed names first so I called the bodyless one Simon and the other one Morgan. Dont ask me why as I have no clue. It just felt right.

I took some pictures of Morgan and showed them to Leanne on msn and she said it looked like he died at birth or shortly after because he was very skinny and just looked like he didnt live long if at all. He had what looked like maggot eggs on him poor little guy. Estimated length 2.5 inches long. Morgan not the maggot eggs they were tiny.

Im not a praying man but I wanted to say some words so bless the little rabbits I hope they passed in peace and that they were dead before they were bitten.

Mat,

Job well done! Even those of us that know you can say that much. I'm so sorry for the loss of the babes, sheesh, you didn't know to expect that, neither did we.

Keep us posted.

Tell Chelle that I love her! I want her to get well very soon. Give her a huge hug from me, please.
