mini , french, holland lop?

I seen this gorgeous rabbit at a Pet store in Nanaimo Paws and jaws. It was a chinchilla color lop with very long ears and medium dense fur and folds of extra skin making it look fat (kind of like a Flemish). I don't know what kind of lop I know it is not a mini as this bunny was at least 4-5 pounds and roughly 20 inches long from nose to tail reminded me of holding a month old infant in size. The store employee said the bunny was female four months of age and full grown. I would love to get her but I want to know roughly what kind of lop would I be dealing with as she is double my current bunny's size and weight and is a month older. and may not fit in my current rabbit set up happily.

Well Hollands are the smallest then minis then French. We would have to have a picture to tell but I'd guess french BC it still has growing to do.

I wish I could of took a picture but since it was in a pet shop pictures was out of the question. But the employee said it was full grown at 4 months which sounded off. But the temperament from what I seen was very cuddly and relaxed even with the fact it didn't know me it settled right in to my arms as if its known me for years even gave kisses and nuzzles.

Could very well be a Mini or Holland. I highly doubt it's a French.
She probably doesn't have much more growing to do, so leaning towards her being a Mini Lop. A Holland would be a smidge smaller. Or being a pet store. What do you want to bet its actually a mix.
But a photo would help. A nice full on level side shot. Would help to see her body and head shape as well as ear length.
I cant even go look since I'm in Van for 2 weeks haha!

this is very very close to what the rabbit looked like. the ears was a bit longer they touched the ground when it was laying down like this one.

I'd guess mini. If you're saying at least 4-5 lb at 4 months, then that sounds more mini lop. Hollands are usually 4(ish) pounds and less. And, I don't think the pet store owner was quite right-Yes, a bunny is almost full grown at 4 months, but I find they still fill out quite a lot a grow a bit more. Plus, Minis do generally have longer ears.

It's hard to say if it was a mini or a French. But one thing is for sure a rabbit at 4mos old is not full grown.

Mini lops have a max weight of 6.5 lbs. I not know how long they are. My French lop weighed in at 9lbs when he was 8mos of age. He was on the smaller side and finally topped out at 11lbs at 1yr old. An accurate weight would be able to give an idea because honestly I think mini lops look like smaller French lops so they can look pretty similar. But the size difference is definitely noticeable. Frenchies wil have a bigger bulldog head and have longer and wider ears. When I flipped mine on his back and his ears went up he looked like a Flemish lol

Honestly, With out actually seeing or having a picture of the actual rabbit, it will be very difficult to give you an answer. Especially when it comes to rabbits at pet stores, they typically have a very poor confirmation for their breed standard and are often mixes. There are very subtle differences the experts will be looking for, but again when it comes to pet store rabbits, it gets even worse. But the main difference is weight. But then we go back to it being a pet quality Holland that didn't get the dwarf gene or a mix so it would be larger then a typical Holland. Plus their estimating the weight, did anyone actually get out a scale?

either way, if you're interested in adding another rabbit to the household, be prepared the 2 rabbits will not get along.

Thanks everyone. Right now I'm deciding if I want a second bunny, I fell in love with her on first sight. But my current bunny is looking to be a small 3-4lb at full grown as she is just hitting the 1-2lb mark at 3months, I'm not sure if it would work. Then there is getting back there to the shop to buy her, their desperate to get her off their hands even willing to drop the price on her to just slightly over 20. from 30.

Well size doesn't matter. Some people have Flemish giants with lion heads. Both your bunnies would have to be fixed before they meet because of hormones. Also I wouldn't say that your bunnies won't get a long just BC you picked the rabbit. You will need to be prepaired though if the rabits don't get a long to have them housed seperately I picked Polly out for peeta and my buns are bonded it may take longer and you just have to be prepared that it may not work out.
