We have a lot of Guinea Pig slaves around RO, so I wanted to share my guys! :)

Here is an adorable video of Henry's sleepy ear flapping.

Henry Benry (1 year old now) had a very rough life. I rescued him from a local animal shelter. He had a severe case of Mange Mites and was being fed Hamster food. I also rescued his brother (Ringo) who was also at the shelter (but housed separately) and suffering from Mange mites. I pulled Ringo after rescuing Henry after finding a Guinea Pig rescue in the bay area that could take him. I'm happy to say Ringo found a wonderful home through the Cavy Rescue.

The first time I saw him (at the shelter), taken with my cell phone.

Mange Mites, the itching was unbearable for him. He was making wounds and would scream in pain. It was really heartbreaking. Treatment using Ivermection cleared it right up though.

Here are pictures of the handsome boy himself.

Then there is Mowgli, another rescue. He is 8 months old and Mr. Attitude.

Last but definitely not least, Gabby. She was incredibly malnourished and unhealthy when I rescued her off the free table at Petco. I thought she was pregnant and took her to the vet who thought they palpated at least two babies. Many days after the expected due date and she showed no signs of having life inside her. Took her back in and got an X-ray, was inconclusive and revealed a mass that may have been nothing to worry about or the cause of her problems. While taking a step back to re-evaluate our next plan of action she fell seriously ill and died being rushed to the vet.

Tribute Video

These were the conditions I rescued her in. :( (Note: It's a short slideshow)

 What was in Gabby's water bottle in that picture?
A build up of gunk, they probably were putting Vitamin C drops in her water but weren't cleaning it out daily like you are supposed to if you use them. The really sad thing the Petco store allowed her to stay in such a neglected state. I tossed the water bottle and bought her a new one, disinfected her cage and got the fecal and urine build up off, and used it as a hospital cage until she got her own C&C. She was also being fed stale Walmart brand food. :(

Ouch!!! Look at those sores on Henry!! Poor little baby! No wonder why you took him into your care. He is one lucky little piggie. I love the close-up photo of him, he looks like he is smiling because he is all better. :DHenry's ear-twitching video is so cute. Now I am going to bother my piggies all the time to see if they do that also when they dream. ;)

So sorry to hear about Gabby. It is hard to think that we can't get to each and every one who needs our help in enough time to help them heal. To think they had a "Free Table".... It's just not right... :(

You are doing a great job with your fur-kids and fosters. :biggrin2:

myheart
