Satins are a nice commercial type rabbit, but they gain slower than your Cals and NZ's by more than 2 weeks difference sometimes.
I would start them with some Cals, Champagnes, or cremes. Silver Fox would be nice but those on Craigslist are often not what they "appear" to be. Many times someone compares to a picture and says "yup, thats what they are." Silver Fox are relatively rare.

And the big rex sounds like a standard, I don't know about there but here the 4-H kids are encouraged to get purebred rabbits from reputable breeders.
