Snow, my rex female is having her babies, the problem is she has been having her babies since about 8 this morning, as i type it is 10:34, she is having a baby right now, but it is taking her a very long time, over an hour to 2 hours i was watching her, she is crying and grunting, and shes getting blood on her fur. Is this normal? This is her first litter, i do not know her exact age, i got her from a pet shop. She is a very sweet bunny, is there anything at all i can do?
the link to her video is here, i just took a small vid of her, shes still haveing problems.

Now I have never dealt with a rabbit delivery before. But what I have picked up from breeders here on RO is they usually are pretty quick about delivery. Usually it happens in the morning. That being said I think you need an emergancy vet right now. If she has a kit stuck in the birth canel that is very bad news.

I would definitely get her to the vet. I've never heard of a rabbit taking that long to deliver their kits. If she does have one stuck, she's probably exhausted from trying to deliver it. :-(

she had the baby sometime after 2AM, the baby was dead but moms hopping around again. However i think she still has more babies in her. I will be taking her in if she doesnt have them all very shortly.

Moved to the Rabbitry where people are more experienced with rabbits giving birth. However, it is my opinion that she needs to see a vet.

I believe there is a vet list in the infirmary thread. Rabbit Vets are a hot commodity, especially good ones.
Problem is, if you are stressed then she is doubly stressed. It is best to give her a quiet area, preferably dark and leave her alone for a couple hours. If she hasn't had babies by then, get her to a vet or wait overnight and get her there first thing in the morning. She needs to be somewhere without extra stress.

Im not stressed when i look at her, its when i walk out of the room that i am. I am worried but she looks okay right now, i felt her belly, or tried to, and i dont feel any lumps or movement at all. But when i was done she just sat in the corner kind of glaring at me, i guess shes mad at me now :(
she was nursing her babies a couple hours ago to. im hoping thats a good thing

I am not a rabbitry expert by any means, but I think in some cases of a birth not necessary going fast enough sometimes they will give the bunny a Tums tablet. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

it sounds like she's done. If there were more I would think she would be in more pain.

I have never seen my rabbits giving birth but only have found what the result was in the morning. I'm not sure what the average litter size is for a mini rex but for a smaller breed rabbit four sounds somewhere in the range. Our moms range as far as how they look. Sometimes there are those that you can't even tell there were 5 babies in there and then those who eat alot more and just get big because their weight has increased.

I would watch the smaller one. Make sure the other two aren't bullying her and not letting her eat. That's how we lost one last week.

so she is a mini rex? i couldnt get an answer, but she hasnt seemed to be in any distress since the last baby. She was however pulling more fur today. the small baby is nearly half the size of the others, i believe i showed them in the last video. Shes doing fine now.
I had spoken to my mother about any place she might know and all she could suggest was calling emergency and having them put her to sleep. There is no way i would do that. I did breed her, so i would take responsibility for any problems but no way would i put her down if there was any other options.

if the vid showed it well enough, what do you guys think of her babies?
and what do you think she is? standard, or mini, i know shes a rex from her fur.

Don't be alarmed if she's still pulling fur. Adeline made a HUGE nest, and still pulls fur (to keep the covering on top fluffy?). And my Cal didn't pull fur until she had her babies, and very little at that. Now, at 3 days, she's pulled quite a bit.

How much does she weigh? Mini Rex senior does should weigh between 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 pounds, while Rex senior does should weigh between 8 and 10 1/2 pounds.

Like Wendy said don't be alarmed if she is still pulling fur. Some moms will replenish their nest if they feel they have to whether it is with fur or gathering hay that we give them.

From her size relative to your hands i would say mini rex.

Her babies look normal from what i can see. That all white one was extra squirmy. Maybe you could take them out and get better pictures of them all together to see relative size difference.

I will take some photos later today, im letting her be with them by herself for right now, she gets slightly jumpy when i reach in. She doesnt mind at all and she loves to be pet on her head. I guess she is a mini because there is no way she weighs more then 4 lbs. I will have to weigh her though. I have a lionhead as well and she is just slightly bigger then the lionhead is.
