Hi everyone, yesterday Igot my boy Rupert a new rabbitwife. Within 5 mins of introducing them to on another, she was grooming him, so I took her home.

This afternoon I went to check up on them and there was hair piles strewn around their home. I got freaked out cause I was worried they had been fighting, but after sitting with them for a few hours and watching them play and groom one another, I don't think they were.

I did notice however thatRupert was scratching and biting his fur a LOT more than usual and I was wondering - could he have fleas/ mites and been pulling his fur out?

Do you this is what it would be, and if so, how would I best treat him?

Thanks! :)

It's very likely theyWERE fighting.Even if they seem to get on really well at first, unfamiliar rabbits should be introduced to each other slowly. If they're getting along fine, now, they've probably established who's dominant and everything is fine. But I'd definitely keep an eye on them!

I'd check them both over to make sure there are no bites or scratches on either of them as bites and scratches can become infected. If there are any bites or scratches, treat them with a safe antibiotic ointment.

As forRupert scratching, it's possiblehe has fur mites or fleas. Rabbits do get them. Especially if they've been outsideat all. There are several treatments, but I've only ever used Revolution (selamectin). Here in Canada you can only get it through a vet. You need the kitten formula.

Hope that helps!

What Rue said is most likely the best answer, but heres just what happened when our doe pulled hair:

Our oldest doe, Frosty, pulled out hair and was trying to nest. So make sure your doe isn't pregnant... or if she is, that your prepared for some baby bunnies!

~Hope it helps a bit!

Thanks for your replies everyone, they're both perfectly fine now and there have been no more hair incidents :p
I treated them for mites/fleas and Rupert seems to have stopped scratching.
My doe Bubbles is desexed, so I hope she's not pregnant haha! I think Rue was right :p
