Litter tray problem

Hi, new member asking a question, sorry if I'm on the wrong bit of the board.

I have a Netherland Dwarf, Lupin. He's five and a half and until earlier this year lived in the garden with his brother. Unfortunately Ickle died and when the weather turned cold we decided it would be better to have Lupin in the house over the winter. It took me about a week to train him to use the litter tray for peeing but after about six weeks of being house trained he's reverted to peeing beside the tray instead of in it. Nothing has changed, we have the pine fragranced wooden pellets and change them as regularly as before, the tray is in the same place.

Any ideas why he's doing this and, more to the point, how I can get him to use the tray properly again?

Hello

I use wood pellets for litter also but my bunnies hate to stand directly on top of it. So I put a layer of hay over the surface and add a pile of hay in the corner too so they can munch and do their business. I do have a big box though because they do everything together.

OK, I'll try the hay trick. He does sometimes climb in to leave droppings, just won't pee in there any more...

Not quite sure what you mean by stretch out in. The litter tray is a medium size corner tray, he used it nicely for 6 weeks and still identifies that part of the room as where he wants to pee, he just pees on the floor next to it

I meant lying down with legs stretched out. Rabbits are much more likely to use a litter box like that [ie a cat litter box] than the corner ones.
