I'm chatting with some friends online when all of a sudden I hear a huffing sound at the foot of my bed. I think, "Oh God! Who is it?" I throw everything off me and I look over and it's Lily! She's flopped out and she's sneezing! I grabbed her up and checked her nose. Dry. I put her on my bed to observe her behaviour and she's her normal bratty self.

What should I do? ADVISE ME! Please! I'm on edge with her. I can't lose her. What if Peg was right and it is genetic?! I can't lose her guys. I just can't.

first of all chill out sweety! You're going to freak her out!

Just keep watching her, if you have an emergency vet you could call them and see what they think and let them know you might end up rushing Lily in later. But it's entirely possible that she just got some hay dust in her nose.

She likely got some dust in her nose.

Just watch to see if she keeps sneezing all the time, and if she has any kind of discharge, otherwise, don't panic. My guys have little sneezy fits if they get stuff in their nose too. :)

ok. ok. I'm ok. Sorry I freaked guys. It's just been on my mind lately since Drew's sudden passing. I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight. :(

tundrakatiebean, there is no emergency rabbit vet around here that I know of. I just moved down here and I barely found them a rabbit vet a couple of months ago. I'll ask her if she might be willing to take emergencies next time we speak.

She's ok now. Just hopping around bumping me. Maybe she did just get some dust in her nose. She just scared me so bad. Neither of them has ever sneezed.

Dont worry, hun, Im sure its nothing. My bunnies have sneezy fits all the time- it sounds worse than it is. If her nose is dry and shes not doing it anymore, its likely she got some dust or hair in her nose.

Oh hon....I'm so sorry for what happened. Let's take a moment though to look at things.

a. Drew stayed small for a long time and frequently had a damp nose. She never had discharge on her nose or paws - just dampness. (No snot).

Lily grew to her normal size and I don't think she ever had a damp nose.

b. Drew started going into stasis shortly before she died. We were pulling her out and getting poops again.

I'm guessing Lily is eating well.

c. Drew was a lot smaller than Lily and she didn't have a lot of reserves to pull on....Lily has been totally healthy up until this point.

Yes, definitely keep an eye on Lily - but I wouldn't freak out over her sneezing. Let me see - with our cooler weather - did you happen to turn on the heat for the first time tonight? Or does the room feel drier and maybe needs a humidifier? Did you maybe close windows for the first time?

Perhaps she just caught something in her nose - dust or hay or something and she had to sneeze to get it out.

Now if she continues sneezing for a few days or has discharge - then yes...get her in to a vet.

But if she doesn't have discharge and her nose isn't wet - I'd tend to think the air was dry or she got something in her nose or something.

Peg

Listen to Peg, asshe's a breeder and was the breeder of Lily (for those that don't know):D. Key points mentioned.;).

Mine, like Haley said, sneeze. Sometimes anywhere from 3-7 sneezes. That, I don't worry about. Only because likely, it's from dust, shedding,or hay alone. Pay attention to this for awhile.

Also, if there is a problem, the discharge will not necessarily be clear, but a yellowish. This is not always the case. The discharge can be clear and still be a bacterial infection, which requires antibiotics. Use caution. Test if you think need be.;) Nasal swabs are used to do the testing for the bacteria, I believe.

See if they sneeze while they groom, Snuff does. Angel does when she's shedding.

Hay also plays a part;). See what you can distinguish and let us know.

Aww...Sweetie...Lily's okay, Hun...mine sneeze in fits every now and then from what I assume can only be getting hay up their nose or some such...and they're totally healthy and happy.

She's gonna be okay, Sweetie...PM me if ya need me, ok?

Hugs and love to you guys!

Just curious - are you sure she wasn't honking to get your attention?

Clover honks sometimes and it sounds like she's sneezing. It's so funny cause I'll look at her when I hear it and think "ohhh no! she's sick" and she's sitting there with her eyes wide "HI MAMA! Can I have your attention please?!"

She likes to have me whisper to her. She likes being told she's a pretty baby and she's a good girl. :p

Thank you guys. I finally got some sleep after listening to her for a while. She didn't sneeze again. It just scared me because it was at least 12-14 sneezes.

Its just that she JUST started showing me affection. She used to merely tolerate me. She's been binking outside and showing some genuine happiness. I just can't lose her is all.

Bo B Bunny, she has never honked at me before so I'm not sure what that sounds like. She grunts at me if I won't let go of a piece of fruit or veggie. haha! Also, she was flopped out on her 2nd level so I dunno. She did enjoy jumping around on my bed so I hope she doesn't get the bright idea to start sneezing so she can have bed time.

Thank you. Thank you so much for the reasurance. Looking back at my post I sounded slightly hysterical. haha! Which I kind of was.

The first time I heard bo sneeze, I went to the vet immediately LOL! "You MUST see him, my baby bunny is sick!"

Clover's honks sound just like a kid sneezing just no wet sounds.

I think I'm going to work on a project of getting bunny noises for the board. I'm just learning the whole video/sound thing tho so it could be a while LOL!

When I first got Yofi I was concerned about him, as he was sneezing quite a bit. Always a dry sneeze, but sometimes he'd sneeze 10 or 12 times in a row, sometimes it was constant, sometimes not. When I asked my vet (the new, bunny-savvy vet I found) about it, he wasn't concerned. He looked at him and said the cause could be dust, or new environment...he told me he's seen lots of cases of bunnies introduced into new environments and they begin sneezing, and it seems to die down or go away completely within a month or so. I've had Yofi since Sept. 15th, and the sneezing has only just started to die down recently. But otherwise he's healthy and fine.

I'm not sure how long you've had Lily, but am wondering if this could be a possible factor...
