My only Siamese Smoke Doe, Pearl, although of nice type is rather dark. (Incidentally so is my Siamese sable doe). She was mated with my main buck, Hamish, who has excellent colour. The two offspring look rather dark although nice enough re type.
I am considering a few options of how to lighten the colour through breeding.
a) I could mate a doe of Pearl's litter back to her sire or use the other buck I have, that has the same nice colouring.
b) I could mate a doe of Pearl's litter (or even Pearl herself) to a REW buck from Ember's litter or vice versa (not sure about the sexes yet)
The REWs from Ember's litter would be smoke/sable bred so I am wondering would that defeat the purpose or do I have a 50% chance maybe of lighter smoke babies?
That's all the options I have at the moment. Which one would get me closer to my goal?
