I tried to put a leash on Baci. It took a while to get it on him. We walked him down the driveway to test it out.Not a fan, had tocarry him home. The second time I got the leash on, before we even walked out the door, hesquirmed his way out of it. Good thing we were still in the house. He hate beingon the leash andgets stressed everytime I try to get it on him, so the leash is now packed away.

Definitely have a cover over your outdoor pen if you have predators around. The hawks here even tried to get my sister in law's pug!

i see, but they have naturual cover as it is, for i have low hedges where we get streesed to get them out and if something's diving from hundreds of feet wouldn't want to get stuck in a pricckly bush. i also have rose plant with evil thorns ;)
and they have a bit of a burrow as well arond 2 feet i suppose

I myself don't recommend leashes for rabbits. They can easily freak out, I've seen it and you don't want to... Excercise pens are great whether indoors or out, with proper installations.;)

I do not have the ability to make a fenced in enclosure (no yard) so I was planning on getting a harness (Midas does wonderful) but I wasn't sure what to get. Do you recommend the H harnesses or the figure 8 harnesses?

i say don't get a leash. i suppose you have already read the posts here but if you really need one then get a four paw leash, but let your rabbit get used to it though or there might be accidents

An H harness is better. The figure 8 ones are all one piece which means they can tighten and possibly choke the rabbit. You can also use the vest ones, but I find them hard to put on and it is hard to get them thigh enough that the rabbit can't slip it off. There are H style ones marketed for rabbits, but if you can find a cat one, it is probably cheaper.

If properly trained and handled while leashed, a rabbit will not freak out. It takes time to harness train them properly before they should actually be let out on a harness. ;) Secondly, rabbits can't be "walked" like dogs; basically the leash and harness is the connection between you and the rabbit, and you can follow the rabbit, and, like I said before, if properly trained, commands and aids can assist by letting you tug slightly on the leash in a certain direction, etc.

They also shouldn't be afraid of the outdoors. If simple things outside scare them, then it'd probably be best for them to be exercised indoors or something of the sort.

I recommend an adjustable H-Harness and a 6 to 8 foot leash. They are easiest to adjust, and the most comfortable for rabbits, beause there isn't a danger of choking.

As for an exercise pen, I would definitely have a nice shelter for the rabbit to hide in; some toys, and make sure it is secure and covered. ;)

I agree with you Em,I posted based on peeps that are newcomers to buns per say as it can be scary to try to put a bun on a leash. Plus, if they freak out, it's worse, I had that happen, so it just scares me know. Not knocking learning it and what is best for your bun, that can be totally different.;)
Great post, Em!:D

i halter trained my bun and now she just loves going for walks in the yard. i can even let her go then grab the leash! it really wasn't vary hard to train her!

Thanks for idea of a pen but have decided against it. as cats and dogs jump over the wall andmay scare them to death.
i want all of you to know that i appreciate all the help you people have given me.
when i come to U.K in the summers, i think i will buy a H style harness and a water bottle for my rabits
