Thats great news, Kirsten! I bet you guys are so thrilled. Our was only out for about 8 hours and I was freaking out- I dont know how people survived before electricity ;)

I'm finally online.

The storms were pretty bad and not only was my house struck by lightening (twice) I have car damage from hail and a very large tree branch.

The house has finally been cleared of all electrical damages and is safe to move back in to, but I have many repairs to deal with that will be ongoing for a while.

You have had the worst weather this year, Leaf! I hope you get everything fixed easily, but I'm so glad it wasn't worse!!

ugh, I was at work (at a local camp) on Sunday when a tornado hit where we were! We finally just got our power back on there today, but the entire camp's a mess...trees are down everywhere. Some even hit workers' cars. I went trail riding yesterday there, and a tree branch from a fallen tree hit my left eye, and now I have an eye patch, and I'm basically blind in that eye....I hate our weather :X

We're about to get hammered again.

I always forget how *fun* this time of the year is.

Kathy, Im glad to hear you guys are all ok. If youre ever there and need a place to hang out for a while (if youre allowed to leave) in bad weather you can always come to my place right down the road.

Leaf, Im glad to hear you are doing ok. Ive been thinking of you- I know you guys are getting hit pretty hard lately. Is the flooding any better? I really hope the rain can hold off for a while in the Midwest!

In my area the flooding didn't really hit this past week but on my way to work last night I noticed the creeks and river bends were up more than they have been in the last few days.

The river access area closest to me has been flooded, the lower level completely, but that isn't unusual for this area, this time of the year.

However, today we're supposed to get a lot of rain. This evening, tonite and in the early morning it'll be the same rain-wise. By the time I go in to work tonite I'm sure I'll have to take an alternate route and if I'm lucky I'll be able to use that same one home but depending on how much rain falls that could change.

My 15-20 minute drives can easily become 45+ minutes depending on how the water rises, or how fast.

We had some wild looking clouds this morning and I beat most of it home but I did get hailed on as the rain hit. The first wave was pretty intense but quick. This downpour we're having right now is pretty severe but there is no lightening or thunder.

The worst part of it all, absolutely, is I am having a heck ofa time finding hay to buy locally. I probably have3 days worth left but the local farmers cant cut/bale due to the water. I was hoping to buy local hay since shipping prices are high and this IS farm area but *sigh* - very little that I had envisioned working out a certian way... has.

Oh wow, especially with gas prices so high thats rough having to take so much time to get to work.

Are the animals at the shelter all safe? I keep thinking of the horrors you have been through having to try to move them and everything :(

As for the hay, its the same here. Im not sure why since our weather hasnt been that bad, but none of the farmers have any hay left right now and first cutting isnt for at least a few weeks. I had to order a ton from Farmer Dave and Kleenmama and its so expensive with how fast 6 bunnies devour it.

One idea- do you have any Pet Supplies Plus stores near you? Sometimes they will special order products from Oxbow and not charge you shipping (mine does this). I know Oxbow hay is pretty decent, maybe they could order you a large amount?

It's funny, gas prices hurt, but at the same time I was forced into a crash course on budgeting almost 7 years ago that could easily have broken me, but lessons learned really stuck with me and I always "pay myself first" out of each paycheck. You should have seen me at first though - I did as someone suggested and literally put money aside in marked envelopes for different bills/expenses... it was a bloody nightmare considering I can't keep track of much other than my immediate extremities...

Honestly, though, it is a pain not knowing how much to budget for even, with the flooding and gas prices as they are. I know some pay more but the worst I've experienced is $3.88/gallon and naturally when I filled up that paticular day well, the prices went down over 10 cents a gallon overnight.

This weekend is going to be busy. I work tonite from 8:30pm - 5:30am. When I get off work I'll make a few stops to check on a few people and to go shopping and when the feed store opens I'll see if they can't do any bulk order for me. If not, I have a lead from a co-worker who knows someone who knows...

As for the shelter animals, after the big flood event the city mandated some changes to restructure "organization" of time animals spend at the facility. No animal spends a great length there anymore, and in the event of an impending natural disaster, the decision can be made by suits-behind-desks to empty the kennels "via humane treatment".

I suppose, if and when a new facility is found, things will change, but for right now - in the aftermath of animals drowning in the floodwaters previously what *they* say goes.

For the most part, anyway.

Sheesh! Gas is $4.19 per gallon here!

It's pouring rain right now. It's supposed to be gorgeous after tomorrow! YAY!
