Large Cages and not active bunnies

but she isn't a very active rabbit..? so i don't know if i should get her a big cage or not. will she get more active when i provide a big cage?

Do you let her out for a run in a designated area? That’s where bunnies get more active. A bigger cage like that will be nice for her to pan out, but may not be enough room for binkies.

I say bigger is always better! May I suggest an XL size crate instead of the cage? The crate would be much less expensive, easier to clean, and will be tall enough for bunny to binky!
Added bonus: the crate can be collapsed into a flat ''suitcase' if you need to move it to another room (without bunny in it, of course!)
You may look around at Goodwill or online (OfferUp, Craigslist, etc) for a crate. I happened upon a new, unused crate for 1/4 the price of a new one at Goodwill!

I can't say for certain, but your bunny may like become more active when there is more space available.

I try but she hates floors for some reason?? anytime i try and make her hop on the floor she tries to jump on the couch and hurts herself, or gets in my lap and shakes and her eyes get huge if i try and put her back on the floor. so i don't do it so she isn't upset. The most active she gets is nesting on the couch or hopping on the back of the couch i have never seen her do a binky.

I made sure the cage is big enough and by the photos, two full-size guinea pigs can live in it, it also has no top so is big enough for binky's it is 8 square ft. Also, I have an XL dog crate for one of my buns already and am very happy with it! But in the space this particular bun is in i feel the cage i have selected fits better, (she is on top of a dresser/chest as i don't have much floor room) a dog crate is what i am planning to get for the rest of my bunnies so i am glad i have discovered someone else uses them, lol.

i don't have carpet anywhere in my house, but in her previous home (she was rehomed to me.) she had hardwood too? So i don't know what her issue is.

Maybe yours is slicker to her? I have hardwood in my bedrooms and in my very small hallway (its like 5 square feet if that) and it meets up with my living room and they will have their back feet in the living room and then sniff the hallway and put their front feet in there and they decide they don't like it so they end up running way back into the living room. If you actually saw it, it would be a whole lot funnier.

That sounds like a good plan if the current cage is really small. Maybe she'll be more active in a bigger one. Good luck!

Some rabbits are fine on solid or slick floors while others refuse to even walk on them. I think all rabbits like to be able to run around. They just need a flooring that they feel comfortable on.

I'd suggest getting a roomy area rug that is just for her. You may just be surprised to see that she will run around (in time) on flooring where she feels she has grip. You could even roll up the rug when not in use. (I'd recommend a rug no smaller than 6' x 8')

From what you describe, I have no doubt that she is one of those rabbits that needs a carpet-like surface so she feels she can maneuver. I would bet that this is the main reason she "isn't active."

I have had such rabbits myself. They would spend all day sitting in their cage rather than risk walking on the scary slick floor. But once on carpet, they were happy to hop about.

Getting a larger cage is always a good idea, but I don't think that will provide her exercise -- especially since the floor of the cage is plastic. And 8 sq feet isn't enough room to binky.

The midwest cages can be decent but another option would be to make a cube cage that could be bigger and cost less. (easy too) Regardless of cage, though, I'd still recommend getting an area rug so she can run around.

once i put a sheet down on the floor and she seemed fine with it then do you think i should do that again??

If a sheet works, great! I found that they can slip about a bit also. But if it works, then sure!

I personally think the larger space the better. We use a dog pen with flooring. He's out of the cage some days until bed time. If he's in there longer than he wants he has enough room in it to Binky, run a bit and stretch out. It made litter training easier he has not had any accidents out of the cage.
