James and I decided to go ahead and adopt two kittens. We're doing a foster-to-adopt program, just in case the bunnies panic. So far it's going pretty good though, and we're pretty sure we're keeping them.

Here's our new babies. We got them on Wednsday. They're not from the same litter but they're pretty friendly with each other. They're both about 8-9 weeks old.

Eve: Very friendly and social (and hyper!), she would usually rather play with us or Lily than with toys. She's into everything and is very vocal. She meows if she's bored, lonely, curious, playing, or if she just woke up from a nap.:D She likes to curl up near us but won't sit on our laps yet.

Lily: A sweety, shy girl who's pretty low-key for a kitten. The shelter lady said that she was more used to her littermates than people, but she's really warmed up to us. Actually, today she decided to become a full-time lap kitten. If one of us is sitting at the computer, she's curled up on our lap purring away. She's on James' lap in the pic, and she's pushing her head under my hand right now. She's very gentle but gets defensive about the Cat Dancer and canned food, probably because she's used to having to fight for what she wants with her siblings. Almost all of her whiskers have been chewed off. I wonder how long it will take for them to grow back?

I have a lot more pics but I don't have time to post them. Instead, you can go to my picture site here:

CUTE CUTE CUTE!!! What adorable little babies!!! Congratulations on your new little furry friends! And what beautiful names, too!

About Lily's whiskers...they'll be grown back in within a couple weeks, a month at the most. :)

Oh, one other thing...the fact that they're playing and laying together already is an EXCELLENT sign. Looks (by the other pictures) like they've become fast friends already! Congrats!! :D

Hehe...one more thing...Eve looks (by her bone structure both in body and face) like she's part Siamese, which is a VERY vocal breed, so I'm not surprised she has so much to say! What cuties!

Cute babies!! I love kittens!! My hubbys not a cat person so I dont think I'll ever get one. But I know he'll be up for a bunny!! someday I'll get a second one.

Maherwoman, I had wondered about Eve's breed as she does have a finer bone structure. It will be interesting to see what she looks like when she's grown up. I'm wondering if her color will change at all because she has some faint tabby stripes but they're not very noticable.

Today we put the in a carrier and let the rabbits check them out. They were all shy, but well behaved. We're definately keeping them and we'll finish the adoption process this week. :jumpforjoy:

The kittens spent the entire afternoon sleeping on the computer chair together. Eve kind of blends in, but she's there.:D

Aww...what cuties!! I think it's wonderful that they've both become such fast friends...just what the dr ordered!! :)

That's wonderful that you've decided to keep them!! :D YAY!!

Yes, she looks like she might be a tabby/Siamese mix. Her color will probably become more distinctive over time...and should be fully developed by a year and a half old. :) How fun to watch them grow and change...aah...kittenhood is wonderful!! :)

I feel like we never left kittenhood with our boy, Hobbes...he's still just as much a play maniac as he was the day we brought him home, and is just as kitten-looking in the face, and both our kitties are over two years now. It's really adorable. Sunny (our girl) has just very recently (within the past couple weeks) started acting like an older female, but only in wanting to squish on the bed every morning when I wake up and every night when we lay down to sleep. It's so cute! I call her my "Skoosh-a-skoosh". :)

Awww that picture of Lily is adorable:inlove:

I also cannot wait to hear how the bunnies get along with the kittens

The kittens are dashing around the living room like the mad furry beasts they are!:D

We haven't really put the kittens and the rabbits together yet. I want the kittens on harnesses when we do that. I might have one that fits that we bought for Fey, but I'm not sure. We'd probably have to punch more holes in it. They don't really make harnesses for kittens this small. So it might be a little bit.

But I do have a quick story from yesterday. When the bunnies are out the kittens are shut in the computer room, which is the "kitty room" with their food and litterboxes. Mocha and Loki were out and I wanted to get something from the computer room. So I cracked the door open and thought I could dash in and push the kittens aside like normal. Nope! Eve was right by the door and she popped out quick as lighting. To my horror, she ran right over to Mocha and Loki! They looked at her in shock as she lay down to watch them! I pounced on her and scooped her up in my arms. Then I knelt on the floor for a little and let them check her out. Mocha came up and put her front paws on my knee and sniffed at Eve. I would have stayed longer, but Eve was getting really wiggly and I had to get her back in her room.

And now as I've typed this my beastly kittens have both curled up on my lap to sleep.:inlove:

Oh, and we officially adopted them on Monday! Lily's paperwork says she's actually 4 months old to Eve's two. They're the same size!

Oh wow, what a size difference! What are their weights? You might have either a long, skinny beauty in Eve, or a nice, petite cutie in Lily. Cute!!

Size differences are difficult to calculate at that age. Our kittens (littermates) were the same exact size until they were nearly 4 months old. Now we've got a petite 8 pound girl, a much larger 12 pound girl, and a tall 13 pound boy. All of them are at their ideal weights. Crazy, crazy genes...:D

Thing is, Lily looks tiny for 4 months old.:? At least she's not so skinny now. She's filled out nicely in the week she's been here. Eve is still skinny but I think she's longer.

I really have to get a video of Lily making her noises. She used to be totally silent. Now she's starting to use a squeak as a meow and she makes another noise when she's happy or playing that I can't really describe. Her mouth is closed and it's somewhat high-pitched and very sweet.

Ok so I have more pics of the kittens, but no time to put them up yet.

I just got back from the vet with Eve. Last week Monday I took both kittens in because Eve had ear mites. They were both treated with Ivermectin. Lily was sneezing a little bit but no discharge, and the vet said it was most likely a minor virus and that we should make sure they're eating and active and that they don't have eye or nose discharge. Oh and Eve gained 15 oz in 2 weeks! She was only 1 oz less than Lily, even though Lily is older by about 2 months.

When we got back from camping on Saturday night I noticed Eve had yellow crusted-up mucous under her eyes. We wiped it off, it was back the next morning. And she had started sneezing a little. Not to mention she was still scratching her ears like they were still hurting her. Thankfully she's still eating well and playing lots. I played phone tag with the vet on Monday and got her an appointment today.

Prognosis: upper respiratory infection (fairly minor for now) and more ear mites. She looks like a little gremlin now because they cleaned her ears out and most of her head is wet. It's amazing how much mite crud they were pulling out! One ear was really sore and started bleeding so they couldn't clean quite as much as they wanted to. Poor girl.:( I'm sure she'll absolutely love having two different meds twice a day. Tresederm drops (sp?) for the ear mites twice a day and oral Amoxycyllin twice a day for the URI. And Lily gets the Tresederm once a day for prevention.

Lily is still good, just sneezing a little same as last week. The vet said it might be because she's had one more vaccine than Eve has, but she said it's not really normal for one kitten to have these problems and the other to be fine. I'm worried about Eve's immune system. :?

Speaking of vaccines, their appointment at the shelter is Thursday and I have to cancel that until Eve is better. The vet said it would be too rough on her. And she might infect the shelter animals or vice versa.

On a happier note, Lily has this really cute habit that she does when she's in my lap. Every few minutes (unless she's passed out) she stands up with her front paws on my chest and rubs her face against my mouth and nose.

The only bunny encounters are when the kittens dash out of the computer room while the buns are out. We stopped even the introductions with the carrier because of the ear mites, and of course it will now have to wait until we're sure Eve's URI has cleared up also. So far though, the kittens are both intimidated by the rabbits which is a good thing, and the rabbits are shy but curious.

I felt so bad about giving Eve her ear drops last night. Her ears still hurt from the cleaning and it must have stung pretty bad. At least she's eating the antibiotics willingly when they're mixed with canned food.
