So, after her little 'episode' the other week, we've scheduled her in to have her spurs filed down tomorrow!

We wanted to get it done last week but since our regular vet was on holiday and no way do I trust the other vet they had in last week, we waited. Snowy is doing great now. She's full of energy and stuffing her face, so it seems like a good point to get them done.

She's going in at 8.30-9am with a packed lunch, and we can call after 2pm to find out when to pick her up. Last time she had her teeth done, back in July last year, she was binkying around that evening and nomming away, so let's hope for the same thing this time! We have plenty of critical care, baby food, and stuff like that if she doesn't though- we're well-practised at that lol....

Thank you Minda :)

It's a very routine thing, and not invasive at all really, so she should be fine, but you know how you can't ever help worrying about them still!

It's not quite a year since the last time. Good thing that the same vet is doing it, so they would be familiar with Snowy.

Does she get a new toothbrush when she's done? :D

Lol, Stan!

It's not actually the same vet, she left on maternity leave last year. But it's our regular vet who normally sees Snowy and who has treated all of her other problems, so we're happy :)

we will be thinking, and i had to laugh out loud at the pic and ca ption, lol. I totally understand your worry, hope it all goes well, hugs to you and Snowy

That picture of Snowy is so cute!

The part about the packed lunch reminded me of a parent sending a child off to school! :)

Good luck, Snowy! :clover:

Sending you and Snowy "Good" vibes.

She's just so Darn cute.

Note to self, get on plane to bunny nap Snowy and her siblings. :p

Susan :D

Good luck with Snowy - I love her expression in her photo - "what? Who me?"

Is this something all rabbits are prone to? How did you know she had problems with spurs?

Thanks -

Denise

Thanks everyone!

Snowy went in about half an hour ago, with her packed lunch of a few pellets, various greens, bit of apple as a treat and some hay to eat before she goes in. It was actually fairly easy getting her into the carrier for a change! I got a treat, and lured her towards it, and when she got close enough, I nudged her bum and she just went in! Then she didn't want the treat once she'd realised she'd been tapped, so Mouse and Chalk had it. LOL! I'm such a mean mummy!

We also realised that PetPlan don't cover dental stuff so we have to pay for today.... Our first real vet bill for ages, if not ever!

Denise, we first noticed last year that Snowy had a bit of a runny nose, with clear discharge, and it turned out that she had spurs and that was the cause. (after a rubbish vet had told us that she 'had a cold' and tried to palm us off with Bayrtil:X) This time around we knew they could come back, but after she had an episode of not eating for a day or so, we found that the spurs needed doing again, so we booked today's appt. She also had a slightly runny nose last week, but it's not so bad now.

I'm not entirely sure on the causes- I'm no expert but I think that genetics are definitely a factor, and I have heard that lops can be more prone to problems with teeth, eyes and nose etc because their faces are quite squashed? Other than that I think that poor diet could cause them, but some bunnies can get spurs no matter their diet- Snowy eats piles and piles of hay but yet still has them!

Thank you everyone for thinking of our little Snow-Snow! :)

Oh yes, she looks cute, but look who she was shoving out of the way! Poor Barney! She totally changes when she's in the garden- she becomes such a silly bunny!

I just called the vets and we can go get Snowy at 5.30!

They said she's fine, but I only spoke to the central receptionist so I don't know anymore than that..

Glad she's ok though! :)

We have Snowy home!

It was her bottom teeth that had spurs, so they have been filed right down. Apparently the top teeth are quite short, so there's obviously not enough for the bottom ones to rub against to keep them ground down. They were on the inside near the tongue but her tongue and mouth didn't seem inflamed at all.

She's very groggy and sleepy bless her, but she has used the litter tray.

Not eaten since she got home, but it's only been a few minutes so far. Silly bunny ate most of her lunch before she even went in for the surgery lol!

She's had metacam as well but we have some to give her later tonight if she seems like she needs it.

Lol! She is a silly monkey! A silly bunner as well..... monker? :expressionless

She's currently asleep in the tunnel. We have to go and get some fresh greens and carrot tops to tempt her with...
