If all of his siblings were chinchillas and you see that much chinchilla in the pedigree, I'm guessing there is a good chance he won't carry either the tans (at) or selfs (a) which means that Kalea will be agouti himi - which as Pam pointed out - is nonshowable. They're still cute - I had a couple of agouti himis last year - cute as a button - just had to sell them as pets because breeders couldn't use them (I'm not big on selling for breeding anyway since these were does) and they were totally nonshowable.

I don't know if the agoutis are at all showable in your breed you're working with - if not - then probably folks won't want to breed from him since he will produce non-showable kits. If you get other breeders wanting to breed from him - you really should notify them in advance that the odds are extremely good that he will only produce agoutis (since that is the dominant gene and I'm guessing he carries it for both genes from his parents).

However, I'm sure you'll love little Kalea no matter what color she is....we can read that much in your posts..

Thanks Peg. I'll definitley let potential owners who want to breed their does with him know that.

Well she hasn't gotten any other colouring on her body yet, I think her nose is just really "pink". Is she still showable with that marking right there on her nose, though?

Is the marking actually fur color or flesh color? If it's a spot of color, it wouldn't be acceptable as is. More color may still come in, but as Peg explained, if the littermates were all agouti (chinchillas), then it's likely this baby is also.

Oh, I meant that all of Bruce's brothers/sisters were Chinchilla, not Kalea's. I don't know what colours they were, but I think they were chinchilla and maybe a few blue? Not sure.

I'm not sure if the colour is flesh or fur. It seems like it's fur, but I have no idea how to tell!
