So I just rescued a bunny from an elderly sick woman who could not care for it anymore. I am here because she did not know the breed of rabbit, and its bizzar to me too so I am trying to figure out the best cage size to purchase.

The rabbit is about 4 months old, already the size of an adult hare. It looks like a hare but the ears both flop down. But not all the way to the ground, but they are longer then a mini lops ears.

The tail is a good 3 to four inches long, the rabbit is all black with normal fur, "not wool." His fur is all black thin, not very silky so to say, and around his eyes and under his feet is tinted grey.

the ears and his size at 4 months old is whats throwing me off any ideas? he does not raise his ears at all unless he is alarmed they are always flopped down or with just 1 ear up.

Theres a couple pics to give u a better idea, hes pretty big, and probably between 3 and 4 pounds already.

Hi Bob is lovely. I'm clueless with breeds.

Are you sure Bob is a Boy Bunny? Do you know how much he weighs? Are you going to get him fixed? That will really help with hispersonality and spraying. Mature bunnies tend to spray their urine. Neutering really settles bunnies down.

Have you thought of building Bob a cage from NIC panels? You can make them any size with more then one level, which is good for the bunnies. Do a search on here for NIC cages you'll see some really nice ones.

Do you have hay and pellets for Bob, at his age you should be feeding him Alfalfa

Looking forward to more pictures and stories about Bob.

Susan:)

looks like a mix to me...flemish and mini lop maybe? or maybe more new zealand than flemish mixed with mini lop?

Yes he has everything he needs food-wise atm. I have him babygated into a play area in my house right now. I will be cage shopping for him tomorrow to find a good fit cause it sounds like I gotta find something pretty big haha. Poor thing wants to just follow me and the kids allover the house but I have to bunny proof first. He has turned out to be quite the lover bunny, hes not afraid of anyone even my two year old which is well really surprising for a rescue. So hopefully this transition is going to go great for him with no problems.

And btw I just looked into the french lop possibility and I think that is the missing link because he does have the eye leveled ears and the fuzzy crown. Mystery solved. Well for the most part.

Lilli is a rescue of mixed heritage--her ears stick out rather than lop with the right being slightly lower then the left ear. Looks like an airplane taxiing when she's out running. Glad to hear Bob is fitting in and that you're gonna bunny proof. Good luck.
