ok so i'm really bored and even though it's almost 12:30am i'm watching jon and kate plus 8 and it's their trip to the crayola factory and i feel so bad for those kids. they aren't allowed to do anything messy. no paint and no markers and they can't get their clothes dirty!!! what's the point in being a kid if you can't make a huge mess and have fun??? i think i need to bring that crew of kids to my place so we can make one giant mess:D

HA HA HA i am sort of like that a lil, i have well water so we try to watch the water so the less wash i have to do the better, lol. I dont let my kids play with paint and markers because it winds up all over them and anything around them like my walls and table, lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did however buy the color wonder markers and they can use them and aquadoodles, which is water. This is of course for my youngest, lol.

I can see that can you imagine 8 kids with markers running around your house  :pullhair:

Cool idea.

Don't forget to have 8 changes of clothes ready - and at least 8 towels so you can give them all a bath. Oh - and the laundry detergent and stuff to do the laundry with. And then there's the stuff you need to clean the wall, floors, furniture, etc.

My husband was #7 of 8 and from the stories he's told - the kids were able to have a ton of fun playing together and imagining...without being able to afford many toys or things to be "creative". His siblings have gone on to enjoy drawing, music, painting and more even though they never had stuff at an early age to learn much with....

Did you ever see the one where Kate's sister was watching 4 of the little ones, and they told her they were allowed to have gum so she gave it to them? I thought Kate was going to have a seizure, didn't one of them get gum in their hair?

I love that show. I also think it'd be fun to just let them have a bunch of messy fun, but I'm not the one who has to clean up after them.

A friend of mine's son was in day care, the woman was a lot of fun. She told all the parents to pack bathing suits one day. Turned out she made a ton of FUDGE, put it in a kiddie pool and let them all jump in it, then hosed them off. I can't imagine how messy that was but I wish I couldn've seen it!

I've done the paint thing with 20 three year olds and it was just me and one other person. when it's warm out just put their suits on and let them get as dirty as they want and then let them run thru the sprinkler.....lol.....there's no law saying a kid has to go to bed every night shower fresh. but i grew up kind of poor. we didn't have a lot of toys but we always had paint. we lived right by the beach so we'd pick shells and paint them and glue them all together and make stuff. my mom never cared about a mess. and there were times when there was more than 8 kids in our house. i think it's just people's ability to adjust to stress. kate seems like she has to have everything organized and a certain way. lol.....anyone with 1 kids knows that all that changes once you have kids....especially 8.

Would you like my three as well? How about right now? They are screaming at each other and fighting over the radio.... I wouldn't give my kids paint either. They used to get markers, but when I discovered how hard that is to get off the wall, we went to just washable crayons.

ok i didn't ask for everyone to jump down my throat. i have an opinion and it's not like i have no experience to base my opinion on. i really do feel that kids should have the opportunity to be creative. and in my experience when kids are able to be creative they stay entertained more b/c they learn how to create their own fun. then there's less crying and fussing. sorry if i offended anybody. i had an opinion and i wasn't looking to get everyone so upset. and it was an opinion on a tv show not the personal lives of anyone on here.

I don't think anyone is upsethere, we're just telling stories....

What I feel bad about is, the kids I know are so used to being clean that they don't want to get dirty. That I think is sad - you're gonna spend the rest of your life being clean, have fun when you're little!

I dont think anyone was getting mad or jumping on you for it either. My sister makes fun of me whenever the kids get dirty about me being too clean, lol.

I love the show but Im always thinking the same thing- let your kids be kids! But then I did see the gum episode so its a reminder that even little things we did as a kid could be an absolute mess for a parent of 8! lol

I do hate how she belittles her husband though. I feel so bad for the guy, she treats him like the 9th child.

that actually bothers me even more. i feel so bad for him. doug and i don't always agree on things but i never tell him in front of people. and i feel that when people have kids they need to value their partner especially in front of the kids so that the kids respect both parents. so i have to admit that a lot of times i just want to poke her eyes out when she talks.

and pink salamander i am so with you on the mudd thing.....lol..... cath and i were covered in mudd most days in the summer. at the end of the night mom would hose us down with the outside hose......we had so much fun as kids.

i love this show too.

i think kate might have some ocd or something. i watched a show where she said she washed the floor three or four times a day on her hands and knees.

I wasn't trying to jump down your throat, sorry if it came across that way.

ok maybe i should rephrase what i said.......for people that feel the need to send me private messages about my opinion.....if you feel the need to send them privately so that no one else can read what you wrote than perhaps you should think before you send one. AND to those same people.....don't assume that i don't have children. As for the people that posted their comments i just didn't know if anyone else felt that i was bashing them if they also chose to not let their kids play with paint. i just found the episode ironic that she takes them to the crayola factory but they can't have a marker at the factory. what next? is she going to take them to the icecream shop to have them watch how icecream is made but not let them sample it? I think she's weird. and i dont' think they should have her family on tv. i was reading an article about the show and apparently she hits her husband several times on the show and then blames him that it's his fault. i don't watch the show that often and i've only seen a few episodes but it bothers me how they are "the american family". anyway here's a link a found about the show.....apparently i'm not the only one who doesn't like kate.

Yeah - sort of sounded like you got some sarcastic replies :?.

I've never seen this show but have read about the family. One of the best parts about being a kid is getting messy. How old are they all? I don't see why kids tall enough to reach the washing machine can't do their own laundry anyway, I did as soon as I able to reach. When i was little doing my own washing was an adventure :D, even ironing was fun. Isn't half the fun of being a parent, delagating the chores to the kids anyway? (just kidding!)

It sounds like the mum is a bit of a control freak, but why have so many children to begin with if you're that way? I dont get that part. If I was super tidy and organised, I wouldn't be wanting that many kiddies .

Edited to add that I agree with you purplepeacock, it's silly that they didnt get a marker or whatever to play with, and your comparison to the icecream factory, lol!

If kindergartens can work fine all day with one teacher and 30 kids, I'm sure it would be ok for these parents to let their kids have messy fun every now and then.

i dont know why she had so many kids either. she has a set of twin girls that are 7 i think and then the 6 kids that are almost 4. the 6 had to be from fertility drugs b/c a person can't naturally have that many at once on their own. i could see getting stressed out with all of them that's why i'd take an area.....even the garage and set it up with tables and make it the mess area. honestly, if they were used to having that freedom they'd occupy themselves for a longer period of time and it would be less stressful for her. and when i read about not allowing the kids icecream ...... that's like child abuse!!!!!....lol......i'd love to take her kids and give them gallons of it! as you can see my sympathy goes to the icecream =)

Yeahall the kids were a result of fertility drugs. The first time she just had twins and six the second time. I actually think shes really brave for having all of them. The doctor gave them the chance to do selective reduction where they "get rid of" some of them early on but they chose not to.

I know I would go nuts with that many kids!

They had the older twin girls using fertility drugs because they couldn't have them without them. They wanted to try again, using fertility drugs, and got the 6 younger kids. They didn't keep having kids, or try to have six. In fact, Kate constantly says that they are considered a fertility nighmare.

They (Kate & Jon) have also talked on air about how she talks to him. She's acknowledged that she doesn't mean to come across that way. But they've also said that it's not easy to always have every aspect of your life filmed and they catch everything that you say.

I like watching them. We can focus on her weird OCD'ness, which she readily admits, or focus on the parts where they each spend a special day with each child doing somethat that is special and interesting to that childso they don't get lumped in together. They are always kissing and hugging the kids ( and each other). They play hide and seek. There's a lot of love there....

Sure, there's gonna be people who don't like her, but there's people who do too...
