You can treat the symptoms of pasteurellosis in pet rabbits. In some cases, it helps eliminate the symptoms or ease them enough that the rabbit isn't uncomfortable. However, it cannot be cured.

Rabbits get it from contact with other rabbits who are sick.

Hmm, I'm not sure where he would have gotten
It as my doe tht I know of isn't sick.

So how do I treat this? And should
I move my doe that's on the otherwise of
The cage or is it too late?

Many rabbits carry pasturella type infections in their bodies but the infections remain latent or inactive if the immune system of the rabbit is strong. When a rabbit becomes stressed, ill or elderly the infection presents itself with active symptoms.
I feel that for many rabbits these type of infections can be treated if the rabbit is treated very aggressively with the right combo of antibiotics for a long enough period of time.

If the rabbit is undertreated the bacteria only grow stronger and more resistant.
it is important to get a culture and sensitivity , however, in the interim period rabbits often respond well to injectable bicillin , Zithromax/azithromycin, Convenia, chloramphenicol and several other more potent drugs.

It is very important to find a vet who has a lot of experience treating rabbits and has an up-dated treatment protocol.
Terramycin in water is not going to cut it and neither is oral baytril .Baytril may work initially but the infection will return with a vengeance.

Ok, so get to the vet and see
If I can get the shot for him?
I have him separated right now.
He is eating as I had to
Give him the pan but he
Is eating.

I have noticed that he is really
Licking his front feet. Not sure
Why but his feet are wet as well
From his nose.

If he is eating on his own that is really good but best to get to a good vet quick. If the vet recommends bicillin injections that is something that you can learn to do yourself.

yes they can. follow strict isolation protocol. Feed everyone else first. Wash up. Then feed him. Wash up, change your clothes. Repeat for evening feed.

Ok, I have been washing since I
Knew it can be spread. So far no
Signs on my doe. Crossing fingers!!

I went to feed this am and he was
Up an running around at the hay and
And food in the pan, l checked him
Over and he had no runny nose or drool
Under is chin. It was hot here yesterday
And today it's supposed to get 97. Yes, I have
Frozen water bottles for them that I put
In there for them. Still calling the vet and
See what they want me to do.

If it's getting that hot, then in addition to the frozen water bottles you need to have a fan on him. Our rabbits love to have their ears and face wetted down with cool water, and with the fan blowing on them it helps even more.

Hi my rabbit has pasteurella he is on baytril an oral antibiotic but every now and then the vet prescribes injectable clamoxyl you have to be careful with this antibiotic though as it can slow the gut down but when he is on a course of these I give him metoclopramide a gut stimulant at the same time. but the baytril which is oral liquid usually clears it but like the other memeber said it does come back but he has had it for 4 years now and is still going strong in between bouts which are about every 2 months the treatment each time usually lasts about 7 days hope this helps.
