I made a fly deterant for the bunnnies cage as the flys are just loving the litter box and lying on the buns so i made up one of 600mls water 2 tsps calendula oil and about 1/4 of a cup vinegar so i was wondering if the buns somehow consume somee.g like if a bit gets sprayed on their hay etc etc will they react or anything???

I just read the buns shouldnt eat marigold but as its been dried the soak in oils will it still affect them?

Heres the ingrediants of the oil:

seasame oil

olive oil

almond oil

marigold flower (thats the calendula)

German Chamomile flower

lavander oil

Hi!

Calendula is in the toxic plant list, so I would not have the oil anywhere near the rabbits, because they may inhale or lick it.

Meat-flies, in particular, are dangerous, because they can lay their eggs in the litter box, the eggs get hutched in there within hours and the rabbit can be attached by the worms and get a serious skin ailment called fly strike (myasis). If you tried to clean the litter boxes and replace the litter more frequently (I do it every 2 days for an indoor dwarf hotot), then the urine and poop smell would not attract the flies.Whenyour bunnies are caged, you could also try putting around their cage an insect net, so that flies cannot get through their cage and keep the windows closed, if possible?
