Hello there, my name is Donna and in June I become the proud mummy of 2 netherland dwarf rabbits, they are brother and sister and are identical, but as with all twins, I can tell the difference. Pumpkin is the female, she has been spayed as I really didnt want her having babies, she is a little sweetie and plays ball with me and nudges my hand to stroke her. Michael is the male and will be neutered/ casturated on Tuesday, he is more nervous than she but is still lovely, I am hoping he becomes a little more trusting after he is neutered. My bunnies have a penthouse hutch which is in the garden, they have a big run underneath, a ramp to go up inside and an ensuite bathroom lol. However in the evening, we put them in a smaller hutch in the shed as I was unable to sleep thinking they may be cold or foxes may be hanging around, now its better as I know they are safe. Also because we transfer them, they have got used to us always picking them up, they have had to get used to me kissing them too, they are very patient with me lol. The reason I have joined this site, is I want to make sure they are cared for properly and there are a lot of questions which I need to ask.:biggrin2::biggrin2:

This is a terrific website for rabbits and their slaves, not only is it very active but also friendly. I am so glad you’re here and I know you will enjoy it.

Many bunnies’ recommend their slaves to this site so we may learn of others methods to keeping our furry masters happy.

If you everhave a sick bunny, please post in The Infirmary and include your rabbit's age, breed and health history as well diet and output details leading up to the problem.

Here are somelinks I thought you might find interesting:

*For reference the Library section

*To brag or tell everyone about the antics of your bunny or just to talk about your day here is where to start a Bunny Blog, you can also look back at it later and remember when you had a life before your bunny.

*Now all the bunny’s like talk to each other when we mere slaves aren’t around in the Bunny Chat is the spot to be.

*The House Rabbit Society has a lot of good information on what veggies are safe for bunny’s, etc.

*Here is a link to learn what your furry master is trying to say to you How to Understand Your Bunny's Language

*Rabbits Online also has regional forums , this a good way to find a vet in your area that has experience with rabbits and to find out from other nearby of good sources of rabbit supplies.

The Let Your Hare Down section is for anything non-bunny related.

Here is a link tothat will help you and your bunny to connect, How to Bond with Your Bunny.

Now every forum has rules and ours can be found with this link Rabbits Online Forum Rules. This gives guidelines on what is acceptable, what is not and how we hope everyone will treat each other.

Everyone on this forum loves to see pictures of each other’s bunnies. So if you would like to post a picture this link will help you do that, Upload Photo's to Photo Gallery. Then in the post, you click on the "G" in the tool bar to insert your photo. Many people also use Photobucket. You just copy the img file and paste it into the post.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions and I am glad you have joined rabbits online; I look forward to seeing you around.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I hope you can help, I am still struggling with leaving my bunnies outside at night, its getting very cold and although I tuck them up in a smaller hutch at night with a cover over them in a shed like place (in the day they are in a big hutch with a run, outside) I cant stop worrying if they are cold, they cant tell me, I sort of feel wicked leaving them outside, If I had room I would bring them in, but reading up, it seems that rabbits are better off being outside. Please advise on what is really best for them. :?

Hello, and welcome to the forums!

Personally, I disagree with rabbits doing better outside. They are far more open to predators, disease, parasites and the exposure to the elements really can't feel good to them at times.

Inside, they are safer, the temperature is consistent and they will probably get far more attention inside then they will out, which will make them more social.

But it's all a matter of opinion. I would personally never keep a rabbit outside. But if you don't have the room, you seem like the sort of person who would be willing to go the extra mile to take care of them so I'm sure you can make it work. I would probably bring them inside after their surgery though, I can only imagine th bacteria that can get into their incisions out there.

Hi, thank you for your reply, I dont have a lot of room but for the winter i think I can make room, Its true what you are saying because I have them both in at the moment due to Michael losing his gems and I can see them, play with them, when they are in the shed, I dont get to see much of them. Do you think its a good idea to have them out in the big hutch all day? and then bring them indoors at night? I want to make sure they get their exercise and fresh air, I am at work all day so its good for them to be out, although that worries me too, how cold is too cold, they have a very expensive hutch which has hidden areas and protection from the elements but I dont want them to be out freezing and I dont know because they cant say. I want to do the best by them as they are now part of my family and actually they have already won my heart and they have me running around like an idiot for them. I am considering buying a indoor hutch for them at night. I really think I will keep them in in the winter, I know it will make me feel better and they will get lots of love and attention. People do keep saying that THEY ARE RABBITS and rabbits are kept outside, they have also said that I am worrying too much about them, they will be fine in the cold. What about the heat?In the winter we have the heating on, is this ok? as Ive been told that heat is not good for them. Sorry to bombarde you with lots of questions, but Iwant to ask someone who knows what they are talking about :?

Hello!
I don't know anything about outdoor rabbits, as I keep both of mine indoors 24/7. As long as you don't heat your house over 85 degrees rabbits will be fine indoors, and even if its over that for short periods of time they would be alright. I keep my bunnies in Exercise pens, its the cheapest way to give them enough space IMO. They are 40 right now on Amazon-http://www.amazon.com/Midwest-Black-Exercise-Pen-Inches/dp/B000H8YTJI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319054466&sr=8-1

I'm not sure if your buns are, but they are also very easy to litterbox train, which makes for easy indoor clean up :D

ETA I'd love to see photos!
