The description pretty much explains it all. I had an emotional breakdown this morning due to financial issues. Well, not really financial issues. You need to have finances in order to have financial issues. I'm broke. Blah.

I called my mum, crying, and talked to her for awhile. She started nagging me about going back to college (I was in the nursing program, I dropped out, but got my CNA license). Finally, I just went "*beep*-it! I'm going!" and frolicked off to enroll in some classes.

I am now enrolled in two classes (wait list for the third) for the Phlebotomy Technician program. I'd be the person who stabs other people with needles. I hate people, so this works for me lol I already have three-credits towards the sixteen-credit program, so it will be easy. I have to take the classes in three semesters because I missed the deadline. Oh, well.

A few hours after I enrolled, a nursing home that I applied to MONTHS ago calls and wants to schedule an interview. For those of you who don't know, I have been unemployed since April '08, and have been through Hell trying to find another one. I have only gone to one interview since then. I love the irony, though. I sign up for school, and NOW, of all times, the nursing home wants me to come in for an interview for a full-time slot. I just scheduled something to do during the days! Ugh! I will take it if it's offered. I hope it is. I need health insurance!

:biggrin2:

Good on you for going back to school, Kelly. It will always be worth it in the long run.
Better job prospects, and better networking with people in the field.
I'm proud of you for getting your diploma.:highfive:

degree, diploma , certificate, fancy piece of paper that helps you make money.
In Canada, universities give out degrees, and colleges give out diplomas and certificates.

ANYHOO, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Ahh, I see. I am going to go back to school at the technical college. It's not a university, but yeah. I'm poor lol Thank you, though! :)

That's really exciting! There are a lot of positions for phlebotomists, especially in the drug industry. They need a lot of people to draw other people's blood if they're involved in a clinical trial. I also knew someone who worked at a drug company who had started as a phlebotomist and worked her way up to a research scientist, if that interests you at all. Drug companies usually have good benefits too and there are a lot in WI (Madison has two companies that all they do is test drugs for pharmaceutical companies). Plus of course you can work in healthcare.

Hehe, on a side note, I was reading through the list of classes offered there, and there was one in the criminal justice area called "Introduction to Terrorism". I thought that they chose a rather unfortunate name :?

*sniffles* But I'm out of duct tape! I used it all when I covered my trash can/bird seed storage bin with it to keep the stupid squirrels out!

Congratulations! I'm so happy for you... and that you got a job interview as well... I hope that whatever you want to do works out for you :)

I also have to mention (randomly lol, sorry!) that your posts always lighten my day! You're extremely funny and your posts are always fun to read :D So, when you do go back to school, I hope you wont be too much of a stranger :)

:roflmao:Is that what it takes to be a phlebotomist? No wonder I pass out everytime they need to draw blood! lol. Good luck! and good for you.

The good thing about being a phlebotomist, especially if you don't like people: I can't imagine people being stupid enough to be nasty to the person holding a needle to take their blood. They usually want to get on their good side!

Congrats. I'm looking at a second job for the same reasons. No money.

I am mean to phlebotomists sometimes... If they won't use a butterfly needle to draw my blood, I will cross my arms so they can't stick me. Butterfly needles are so much more painless than the regular, FREAKIN' HUGE needles that they bring out.

Yep, those are better for sure!

If you end up in Indiana ever, please be a nice vampire lady! You never know - it could be me! ;)

Congrats on school. My sis and niece did that same thing. My sister was 6 mos from being an LPN - she got sick and never went back cause physically she can't do that work now. My niece got lazy/married/now preggers.....

There are TONS of jobs for LPNs and RNs - big shortages there!

I was going for the RN, but it was too hard. I know how lazy that makes me sound, but after seeing how nurses are at work, I didn't want to become that. I mean, they always look so miserable, and you can't "care" about them. I didn't like that. My sister is a nurse, and she just seems so snobby. I've met a lot of nurses like her. I don't like it. I have my CNA license, but I don't really want to do that forever, either. You don't get paid a lot, even though you deal with the most sh*t, figuratively and literally speaking. I wanted to be a vet assistant/vet tech., but there aren't any tech. colleges around here that offer any classes. Grrr... Phlebotomy was next on the list!
