We have just come back from our monthly shop at the pet store. I was getting the timothy hay, when I heard shreiking and gigglling. I turned around, and there was a customer holding avery young baby rabbit by it's ears. The little bun was wriggling and sort of yelping. The woman then dropped it from about waist height and stood there laughing. Well, I felt so angry, I thought I was going to pop. We are supposedly a nation of animal lovers, but people can be so unbelievebly cruel, seemingly through ignorance.

:growl:The woman then went out of the shop. I told the assistant that someone needed to go and check on the baby rabbits and I told her what had happened. The assistant was really shocked and saw to this straight away.

:gun:I strongly feel that customers to pet shops should not be allowed to handle the animals without permission.

I just felt that I needed to share this experience, but sorry for the rant!

Absolutely...I second that thought. Only if a customer is interested in purchasing an animal (though in my eyes, I don't even think pet shops should sell animals) should they be allowed to handle them; and then, only with the guidance of someone who works there.

No need to apologize for ranting...one of themost upsettingthings we can witness is cruelty to animals....

I had a pet shop near me that sold rabbits and there was no lid on the caged area, so little kids could just reach in and grab the bunnies. This really ticked me off. I complained to the owner soo many times.

I cant believe that person could be so cruel. Could you suggest that they get a cover for that pen the rabbits are in? Maybe call and ask to speak to a manager to complain? I know it didnt do me any good, but who knows...worth a shot.

People like that make me so sick. poor little bun :(

That is SOOO horrible!! Some people are just complete morons though. But remember.... "rabbits dont need to be taken care of...they're not dogs or cats..."!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:gun::sosad

Some people are just really thoughtless and uncaring,i would have told them to not hold the bunny by it's ears and to have some respect, and how would she like it if someone picked her up by her ears.

Geez what is wrong with people in this world,it makes me angry how people can just mistreat animals and don't even care about what they are doing:X

My pet shop is amazing. Vets all around reccommend it. So many people even get Puppies there! I got Darwin there.Thats horrible to see what some peoplee do though! *Closes eyes* May that women feel guilty her whole life!! *grumbles*

What a dumb lady. I would have gone right up to her, and told her what the heck does she think she's doing. A petland near me, if they have young bunnies and guinea pigs they put a wire top on them sothe publiccan't handle them or scare them. I still hatethat store, but atleast they keep decent care of their animals. I don't like 99% of petshops that sell animals, and refuse to go to petstores that sell rabbits.

Stories like that make me wish I was strong enough to walk up to that woman, pick her up by her ears and ask how SHE likes it!

I get *SO* angry when I hear of people being so heartlessly cruel toward any animal, least of all a defenseless little bunny.

I'd just love to beat the living daylights. Especially since she was giggling about an animal in so much pain- what a phycopathe!

hi therei thinksomeone should have picked her up by her ears and then droped her from the roof of a large building. i live in the uk in a town next to brighton and were i am the pet shop do not look affter there animals at all when i got ny first rabbit she was 6 weeks old and the pet shop had her in the shop at 5 weeks old it was not to later that i found out that she was to young to be away from her mum. and all of the othere animals are in bad condition. pet shops like that should be closed down. sorry for going on its just it annoys me

Our 2 Lionhead girls came from the petstore. Our girl Skittles was unmanagable when we first brought her home. She gave me a beautiful bite the first day we had her. She was kept in one of the aquariums that they keep in the middle of the aisles. Apparently the kids bugged her so much they had to lock her in another cage cause they were afraid someone would get bitten. It took a long time for her to trust us. And she still doesn't tolerate being handled. Our 6 year old neice has been working with her off and on since we brought her home. And she will finally tolerate a child touching her to pet her. Before she would run away and sit shaking...or try to bite! Petstores sell animals...I understand that...but they should be responsible for the health and well being of the animals in their care! Customers should not have access to animals unsupervised!
