Ziggy hasn't eaten any pellets since I came backfrom Columbus on Sunday. He has drunk a little bit of water but nowhere near as much as he normally does. He never was much of a hayeater. I do have an appointment at the vets for tomorrow morning but Iwanted to get a head start on his treatment. My sister is bringing homesome pedialite and pineapple juice and a couple of syringes. Should Idilute the juice and pedialitye? I feel really stupid now for notbuying a bag of critical care that was readily available at all thevendor tables in Columbus.

I would put the pediatlyte in his water bowl toentice him to drink more. Then just syringe him water everyso often and see how he does. Good Luck. Oh, andcan you have your sister get some pumpkin? Syringe some ofthat as well. You can make a slurry with the pellets and mixthe pumpkin in and syringe that too:).

Hope he does ok and makes a complete recovery.

You may want to give some simethicone too and tummy massages are always good.:)

Oh Ziggy! Everyone is sick right now!

Pedialyte is a good idea. A pellet slurry is another one. I would bepushing hay right now and maybe get some simethicone just in case itsgas?

Have you tried feeling his tummy to see if its hard?

I've been trying to "push hay" on him since Ibrought him home from the breeder. He just never did eat much hay. Iwill try the pellet slurry. It's kinda hard for me to feel his bellycause he keeps flipping himself back over. My sister just got home withthe stuff. She is going to have to help me force feed him anyway, soI'll check him out then. Thanks for all the help.

If you can - I'd run out and get a can of canned pumpkin (not the pie mix one - just pumpkin) and I'd get some banana baby food.

I find my rabbits that don't care for pumpkin will still eat it if itis mixed w/ banana baby food (probably 'cause it is sweeter?).

I use about 2 parts pumpkin to 1 part baby food - sometimes 1:1 ratio..just depends.

Is he pooping at all?

How are his poops?

REALLY soak the pellet slurry well. If it hasn't absorbed allthe fluids from the bowl, it will absorb more from the stomach andfurther dehydrate.

Exercise and tummy massages help, too.

Hope he's okay.

sas

and don't forget the simethicone - I think it does wonders...

I buy the Walmart brand for about $3.75 or so...

I'm starting to wonder now. My sister alsobrought home some romaine lettuce and some craisins. These are treats Irarely give my rabbits. Ziggy ate 3 craisins from my hand and chompingbig time on the lettuce. Does this sound like a rabbit that still mighthave stasis?

What about his poops? When did he last have some and what did they look like? That's really the key.

If all is well there, he could have just had a spot of gas, or it may be a dental issue.

He certainly isn't critical. :)

sas :?

I'm starting to think it might be a dentalissue. There were some fresh poops in his litter tray this morning. Ialso noticed the small bowl of water-Pineapple juice mix was empty. Hedid nibble on a few pellets last night and this morning and totallyconsumed a handful of romaine. I'm still going to take him to the vetthis morning, but I honestly don't think he has full blown stasis. Iwill update after the vet visit which is 10am.

We are back from the vet. She does not believehe has full blown stasis as I suspected. However he does not have adental issue either. She said just keep feeding him whatever greens hewill eat and hopefully his appetite will come back for the normal foodhe is supposed to eat. I also brought a fecal sample and they said thatwas fine also.

Great!I bethe just was starting to show signs of stasis and you caught it in time.

Good work! Is he eating and pooping OK this morning?
