so..I finally got my placement for my teaching observation for this semester. We do one semester of observation (8 hours a week)and one semester of student teaching (which is a full time thing).

I start tomorrow bright and early at a local middle school. Its sort of in a crappy area of Flint so it should be interesting to say the least. Im working with a 6th grade Social Studies and Language Arts teacher. I asked for middle school since Ive never substituted there before and I thought the experience would be good.

So thats where I'll be Tuesdays all day from here on out. Wish me luck!

Good luck! :D Most of all, have fun!

You know... we really need some better teachers at the school I go to.. any chance of coming out this way?;) "The civil war started in 18......" "Ms. Haley?" "Yes" "Can I see more pictures of Mr. Tumnus?":whistling;):wiggle

Good luck on your observations. :biggrin2: I had my first observer today following a fourth grade class around. She was very polite when she asked to observe so I told her she was free to take a lap if she wants. The wierd thing is she was older than me.

Good Luck! Hope your first day was good - how did it go?

Oh man, Haley does not want to teach middle school. Its even worse bc its sort of inner city and they all dont give a crap about school.

I just have to tough it out for 1 day a week for 10 weeks ;)

haha, I don't want to teach middle school either, especially after student teaching in two inner city lansing middle schools! High school is definitely better!

Well Silvie, youre wise beyond your years ;)

I'll teach bunny 101 to middle schoolers anyday, but social studies and language arts- no thanks :p

haha, yeah, I wish RO was my school!

Im kind of smart in a different way compared to other kids my age you could say... like I cant memorize my multipacation tables for the life of me, but can memorize info on bunnies just like that!

And I always do problems the different way, and get the same anwser, but my teachers make me do it their way :grumpy:

Lol okay ill stop :biggrin2:

Good luck on your teaching Haley, I can defneitly imagine you a great one!

you can come in my class and probably teach these kids Silvie! ;)

Like today, the teacher asked the kids to name states in the Great Lakes region...some of the answers included Chicago (obviously not a state), Canada, Texas and Florida

They didn't even mention their own state?:shock:

Good Luck with this Haley, you have your work cut out for you:hug:.

Hey Haley, I just saw this thread, I didn't know you were a teacher! (or at least training to be one). I'm a teacher, in my second year of teaching right now, so I know what you are going through! Good luck and if you need any advice (or to vent) let me know!!

That's great! Be careful if it's a bad area. I hope you find the kids are receptive to you and learning. My daughter is in the 6th grade. I'd be interested in how things are going there.

Its not really "bad area" ie inner city Flint- more like very low income sort of outskirts of Flint. haha definitely good this is pulled.

One girl was very sweet and was telling me about how her bunny has ear mites. I hope she joins.

I didn't even look at the date of this thread! COOL!

Haley when I did the geography test for adults applying for jobs at a national company, I couldn't believe some of the answers on the map.

Some couldn't find Indiana.......

Some put a few states Like Indiana and Kentucky and Ohio right......

Did you know that Texas is AFRICA?

and that Main is England?

We even said UNITED STATES GEOGRAPHY and they had no clue what states were and countries.... it was so sad. I used to get so upset that these people hadn't learned about the world!

Needless to say, my kids know geography. My son was 2nd runner up in a Geography bee in 6th grade - lost to an 8th grader who had just returned from Japan and got a Japan question. :X

Yeah, I believe it. We had a 50 state map quiz the other day- some of the answers for US states- Paris, North America, South America, and THAILAND!!!

Its very discouraging.
