I was running some errands yesterday when all of the sudden I passed a carseat on the side of the road. I stopped my car and got out. I found a baby in that carseat with discharge papers and a sign that said "Not Needed". The mother and baby had just been discharged from the hospital. With humidity, its was about 110 degrees yesterday. I dont understand why people do things like this. We have a law in Virginia called the Safe Haven law. You can take your baby to a hospital/fire department/police station and drop your baby off with no questions asked. They will not ask your name or ANYTHING!!! She had justl eft the hospital. She could have left the baby there and not gotten in trouble. Instead she chose to leave her baby on the side of the road with discharge papers that have her NAME on it and will now be charged with numerous things. I called the police and they wanted to check my ID and information to make sure the baby wasnt mine since i have a small belly from being 16 weeks pregnant. The baby is safe now and thankfully has no injuries. But seriously, a sign that said NOT NEEDED!!! Who does something like that!

Makes you pretty angry and naseaued doesn't it. She could have told them she was depressed, broke or just not up to looking after it. They find babies every once in a while in garbage bags thrown out, or just left to die. I agree with the laws that protect the mother from prosecution if she cannot cope, why in heck would she do something so unhumane. Good for you spotting this little angel.

Wow. I wonder who picked the mother up from the hospital. Maybe the boyfriend did it. Or maybe her pimp. I hope they find out.

Can men do the safe-haven drop-off? If not, that would be as reason to dump the kid, but not an excuse. It's bad enough to dump animals like that.

That's sad...I can't imagine giving up my baby. Let alone dumping it like trash on the road. That's so inhumane and it has to be a messed up person to do that.

Why even take him out of the hospital if she's just gonna dump him!?

Wow, that is horrible! And it's so easy to not have kids if she didn't want any.:grumpy:

And how fortunate that the baby had an angel like you pass by that day!

Omg horrible!! Sounds like something in a movie....it's awful that things like this do happen in real life.

Makes you wonder if there is more to the story. I wonder if the mom is okay? Being forced to do this? Mentally I'll? Weird that she would leave w paper with her name on it.

Wow. Maybe a person like that shouldn't have a baby and in the long run this innocent baby will be better off.

Will you be able to find out what happens to the birth mom?

Thanks everyone. I'm glad I passed by too. It was so hot out there and it kills me to imagine how long that baby was out there. Yes I will know what happens to her because I will have to testify in court

Oh you are an angel sent to protect that little soul. I'm horrified that a mother could do something so horrible. I can't fathom why or how anyone could do such a thing. Let us know what happens.

I can't even imagine what circumstances would drive a person to do that to any living, breathing being, especially a human infant...

Wow. How heartbreaking. I just don't hve words, not nice ones anyway. I would so want t just keep that baby, just take baby home and love it to death. *Sigh*

Nela, the funny thing is, friday and saturday I was having an adoption yard sale/bake sale/ lemonade stand fundraiser for some friends of mine that are trying to adopt. I had left to go pick up lunch for everyone and pick up some bottled water when I found the baby. I wanted so bad to bring that baby back to my house and hand her to my friends that are trying to adopt.

Oh my God that is horrible. It makes me sad for all the women out there desperate to have kids and would treat a child like it's the most important thing in the world, when some women have no problem at all and just throw them out on the road like they are trash. Just no excuse for it at all, especially when the woman lives in a developed country where she has so many options.

Having just lost one of my twins, I can't imagine how someone could do that. I would give anything to have my daughter back. In about 5wks I will be holding my remaining daughter but I wish it was both.
