Oh, is that cute or what!! It makes me want a little rat.. hehe :D.

I wouldn't be surprised if she was deaf from her age, poor thing :(.

Yeah, being that she is at *least* 3, if she is deaf, it is most likely due to age.

You can tell, however, that she wasn't taken very well care of. One of my girl's is 3, and you can't even tell! Their lifespan is generally only around 2, as well. My girl (Snowball), suffers with an immune disorder, as well as a few other problems, but due to lots of love and care, she looks and acts like a youngin'! This new little gal, however, definitely looks rough.

I do have some sad news, however. Her upper respiratory infection is much worse today, and she is sitting in one corner huffing and puffing. I will be syringe feeding her in a little bit. She ate a little this morning, but she's not drinking much water.

I went to PetSmart this evening and found the perfect cage for her. The ramps and ladders are made of plastic, so they'll be easier on her feet. They also aren't as steep, which will make it easier for her to climb. She already has some trouble climbing, probably due to arthritis.

I am going to wait a week or two before I get the new cage, just because it is $60, and it's sad to say, but I want to make sure she makes it before I buy it. :(I would go out and buy it anyways, but I am realllyyy low on money, and I just don't have it at the moment.

I must say though, she is definitely a little fighter!

Aww what a brave old girl!

I'm not sure if it's ok for rats, but would a hand towel or cloth be ok to maybe help her feet?

I'm hoping and sending good vibes that Lyla will havea much better day tomorrow!

Keep up the good work! :D

Well, I use cardboard chips for bedding for all my animals (only one place in Louisiana that sells it, and I have to drive an hour away to get it!) because it is dust free, and safe to chew on. Well, I put the bedding down on the wire floor to cover her feet, and she took every piece and put it in a corner for a nest, LOL! So, I will try putting a towel down. Hopefully she won't shred it too bad. I covered her cage halfway with a towel last night, and found it halfway in the cage this morning.
