Hello,

I just rescued a baby rabbit from my cat; it was okay. I don't know ifit is still nursing or not. Can rabbits have goats milk or what canthey have?

Thanks,

Floppy

I'm not sure about rabbits, but we rescued a babyopossum once and it did fine on cow's milk. We watered the milk down atfirst to let it's system get used to the new formula. Usually babies ofany species can digest the lactose, which is what causes problems inolder animals. As animals grow they lose the ability to digest lactose.Anyway, I would try using a watered down milk formula and graduallyraise to a full concentration. And whole milk would be best, babiesneed a high fat intake. Of course, I could be wrong, but I assumerabbits aren't that different as other small mammal babies indigestable matter. But since opossum's are omnivores it could be.

Thanks very much! I'm going to take it to the vetin the morning; I can't do anything tonight. The site helped andtelling me about the milk help as well.

Thanks again,

Floppy

I think goat's milk is ok. I believe I just sawthat on a post here. Saphy, my newest baby, is a hand raised baby, hewas raised on KMR (kitten milk replacer). I recommended my vet to hisbreeder, because she is just wonderful (although she is expensive, sosomeone else will be doing my spaying and neutering), the vet wasreally helpful to the breeder. Hand feeding bunnies can be trickybusiness.
