Just to mention too, I've had a small dog before (Chimixed withPom) and it was great..until she ate our blinds. Adding to that she shed badly and my mom was alergic so she was sent off to another good home.

She ADORED my bunny. If I scolded Babii for biting something she wasn't suposed to I herd from it by Hailey. She would nip at me and pretty much walk over babii so i would keep away, Babii actually taught her to hop

Once you see a dog hop you know you've seen everything. They would have races back and forth in the hallway..Babii would win (she would turn back and touch the wall) lol
All dogs shed. If your mother is allergic, you shouldn't be getting another dog. If you must have a dog, look into a hairless dog or a dog with hair instead of fur.

Also, alot of the time its not even the fur that makes them allergic.

It has something to do with the dander or something...

So pretty much if your Mom is allergic to dogs, she will be allerrgic to this one, because Chi's aren't one of those newly bred hypoallergenic dogs (labradoodles, etc.)

People can even be allergic to a "hypo-dog". Besides, I don't think it's fair to support the breeding & selling (for tons of money) of MIXED breed dogs :?.

The shelter has some wonderful doggies just waiting for homes.

The reason sh wanted the Chi in the first place was becasue it was small.

Shes set her mind to a Chi and they guy at the pet store told us they dont shed as much becasue most of then have little fur in the first place.

But you ccant really compare a pom and a chi. Pom's are poofy.

Poodles shed..ALOT. My brother has one and whew does he shed

My brothers have a chihuahua dachshund mix. He sheds like a monkey butt. Shorter hair, same amount of shedding.

As someone who works and has been working in the animal industry for some time now I find it very distressing when people start talking about 'teacup' breeds... please people DO NOT buy these dogs this sort of breeding should not be encouraged. Dogs were never meant to be that small, the only way you make them that small is by breeding runts of litters, those of which usually have health problems.
Talk to any vet about the risks associated with puting these dogs under anaesthetic... in some cases if they get sick your stuffed because they are too small to operate on!
Further more NO GOOD breeders sell to petshops, BAD BREEDERSdo... what is a bad breeder a puppy mill operator, the petshop isn't lying it is a breeder but its a s**t house one... Someone who is a hobby breeder, that shows their dogs, that takes the time, effort and money to breed good healthy dogs doesn't sell to a petshop...
If you want a dog, do the research and find someone who is a responsible breeder. You will have to wait longer then if buying from a petshop, but if your not willing to wait for a healthy dog then you shouldn't be getting a dog at all...

One more thing, i'm, also a qualified groomer and short hair dogs DO shed LOTS of fur. Chihuahuas shed lots of fur as do JRT and many other short coated breeds.
Once again do the research, and by research I mean don't listen to someone who works in a petshop he is like a car salesman and will tell you anything to get you to buy...

This is something I'm very passionate about, its fine for those who go to petshops and buy these dogs without a second thought, its not fine for those of us who have to witness the after effects, the dogs that a put to sleep due to horrible health problems or because the person who bought it had no idea what they were getting themselves in for. You would be surprised by the amount of chihuahuas, chipoos, maltaliers, spoodles doodles or whatever that are currently in pounds, shelters etc or the amount that are no longer with us because of impulse buying.

End of rant

This breeder doesnot sell thier dogs to pet stores..the owner of the pet store happens to know this lady who breeds HEALTHY dogs.

Gosh I feel as if you guys are attacking me for my mothers decisions.

and frankly. I dont care on anyones 'Dont get this dog' because maybe you may change my mind but my mom on the other hand dosent have a care in the would if you say not to.

"chihuahuas, chipoos, maltaliers, spoodles doodles or whatever that are currently in pounds, shelters etc or the amount that are no longer with us because of impulse buying."

This IS NOT a impulse dog. My mom made herself to belive that she wantes and will care for a dog. She cannot get a large dog because our landlord said so and I really think my mom deserves a dog. Please stopwritingfalse stuffbefore you ask first and get the real answer.

Hi brandy, I'm sorry for all the slack you feel you're getting. I am by no means an expert or even very knowledgable on any animal but I tend to agree w/the dwarf rabbit statement. Heck, there are people out there trying to breed Micro breeds.

My mom has a teacup poople who is very healthy and VERY much well cared for who was obtained through a breeder. She also has a shih tzu. She loves them both immensly and they are uberly spoiled. I wish your mom luck on her find for her perfect companion.

Please don't get discouraged with comments made by others. They are made well intentioned and I'm sure no one meant to offend you.

Brandy456,

Ok no one here is attacking you. People are getting upsetbecause small dogs, espec breeds like the Chihuahua as there seen now more as a fashion accesory thanas a living thing. I no this is not why you and your mum want one.

People are trying to stear you away from buying from a pet shop for all the right reasons. I have bought from one before and it turned out that she was the runt of the litter and died of heart failure. Im not saying that all dogs from pet shops are like that but the risk is much higher when there isbad/cross breeding.

As for these "teacup" Chihuahuas, Ive not had much experience with them as me and my family breed Rhodesian Ridgebacks but like everyone here is saying it sounds like bad breeding, the smaller the Chihuahua im guessing the smaller its chance of survival.

Its totaly up to you if you want to take all our advice on here, but my advice would be to go to a good breeder

It is not my opinion that there is no such thing as a Teacup Chihuahua. It is a fact.

I am not attacking you. I am trying to correct a common misconception that is harmful to the breed.

Brandy is correct, it is not her getting the dog, it is her mother. Let's lighten up and provide Brandy with helpful and informational sites on Chihuahua's, so that she may pass them onto her mother :).

I'll just point out that no matter how small a dog may be, it will never been as delicate as a rabbit. Because it's still a dog.

Many"teacup" chihuahuas, or "runts of the litter", tend to come out well. Let's also not critisize her before looking at our "dwarf breed" rabbits, and some of the BS we had to go through to get modern day breeds. The first Rexes were less than...well. Than they are today.

That being said chihuahuas are prone to some skin problems, such as Malassezia pachydermatis. These problems don't go away and require long-term treatment. They *are* chronic, and there's no cure. It *will* have to be treated with steroids and other treatments if it pops up. This is just one thing to consider. I get rather annoyed with people who buy these little dogs and get angry when this sort of thing comes up. So there's one thing to consider.

False stuff? Where is there false stuff? Will you please point it out to me before accusing people of lying? This is the only thing that has got me a bit irritated. I don't think anyone on here has to say "false stuff" to discourage you. The truth is enough.

I think she was refering to the impulse buying statement...it seems that she might have interpreted it to say that it isan impulse buy that her mom was making and she was just saying that they should ask before making a false statement like that.

Really, I think this is all so unneccesary. We can't make her mom do or not do anything. Yes, we can inform but we shouldn't criticize her for her or her mom's decision. I'm sure that whatever they choose, the puppywill be well taken care of just like Babii.

Brandy, I hope we haven't scared you off.

Well honestly, I don't see anything wrong with impulse buys as long as you're going to be responsible for it in the long run. Dahmer, my heart cat, was a complete impulse buy and he is my heart and soul. No money is too much for him. My other cat? Semi-impulse, I went out looking for a cat even though I shouldn't have. My buns? Also semi-impulse, especially my fosters, all they had to do was mention "oh this guy needs a home" and my hand was raised for volunteer work. My flemmies, semi-impulse. My ratties I might be getting, completely impulsive.

I'm not very good at doing research first. I do research while waiting for the animal or when the animal gets here. But trust me, they are ALL well taken care of and I have no plans of ever letting them go. My boyfriend knows..even if money is tight, my animals will eat before I do. And their needs will be taken care of before mine. I will cry over my own medical bills and not go to the doctors because of it...but give no second thought to putting thousands for my animals.

My 2 cents.
