Peaches has lots of toys but doesn't seem to actually play with anything, either alone or when someone is around. He does like to dig, a lot! So I found a box with decently high sides and shredded some legal size paper into really long strips, plopped them in the box and let him do his thing. Well he seems to really like it (I left it ouside his cage so he won't make a mess in there). My problem: it's a cardboard box and he's peed in it and left many, many poops in there too. The poop I can get out and the pee cleans up but I don't want a stinky play box. I know he's marking his territory but will he pee & poop each time in there? He's on the chopping block to get fixed soon and I hope this will stop soon (he's been pooping all over his cage too even though he seemed to be litter trained).

I just want him to have a toy he can actually play with that doesn't need constant cleaning on my part. I can switch out the cardboard for plastic for the easier cleanup, but I don't want him chewing it either.

I have a similar "toy" for Shadow, but she has never gone potty in there. I was worried she would think it was a litter box - maybe that's what Peaches thinks it is? Hopefully he stops once he's been neutered. Good luck!

hehe.. chopping block, lol!

My crew LOVES cardboard. Yep, they mark it up... just go grab some cases at the liquor store for new ones, though:)

Neutering will probably help. Scamp has a selection of boxes and tunnels but is (touch wood) perfectly litter trained. I use a plastic washing up bowl for his shredded paper collection, a plastic storage box would give you higher sides whilst still be 'washable' :)

why not just do the plastic box and find a way to put a cardboard lip around it. that way he can chew the edges all he wants and it's still easy to clean and all you have to do is replace the lip every now and then. or just make the bottom plastic. almost like a plastic shallow box in a deep card board box. just use duct tape and seal it so he can't get his claws between the 2 boxes.

my guys do the same and they are all altered, i stopped putting boxes in, or i throw them away as soon as i notice the pee,lol
