Ok I have a 4-H meeting in March...and well since me, my friend and (FallingStar) Karlee, are the only ones in there, I was thinking about giving a short (approx. 4 minute) presentation on the Make Mine Chocolate Campaign, etc.

Some things we could do:
1. Give everyone a flyer, and ask them to hang it up at a place...for awareness!
2. Educate them all, of course

3. Explain to them why it's so important (gosh, they'll be SO shocked, seriously.)

So any other ideas? I think I -may- be able to make a presentation type of thing on my computer...then -somehow- link it to the television, or put it on youtube, then watch it, etc.

So does anyone have any ideas, suggestions, speech preparedness ideas? ANYTHING will help! Including the link to that website with all the info to help me out...thank you!

Hey There,

I used to be a 4-H agent in S.C. so maybe I can help. First of all, maybe I missed something, but what is the "Make Mine Chocolate" campaign. Give me a bit more background on what you are trying to accomplish and I'll do my best to help you out!

Thanks!!!!

Sandy

Well I don't know a whole lot about the "make mine chocolate campaign" but it is a great campaign that helps to educate people about Easter and bunnies, about how they're not a great mix. So the Make Mine Chocolate, means, instead of a real bunny, make it a chocolate bunny.

The flyers have much more information, etc. As well as the website...

What I'm trying to accomplish? Basically, I'm trying to let my 4-H club know that rabbits at Easter isn't okay, and what usually happens to those bunnies, etc. I'm trying to tell them, that there actually -is- a lot more things with rabbits then they could ever think...I mean, they know that the horse world can be not so great at times, but they don't know that about the rabbit world....they think rabbits are pretty much like horses....No joke! No joke! My 4-H leader compares rabbits to horses, with things that aren't even close!

Does this help? Or is there anymore questions? I'd love to answer them if it helps!

Woohoo! Great idea :)The Make mine Chocolate campaign is great. Last year I took in about 25 rabbits alone that were bought or given as gifts at Easter and no longer wanted about a month after. All these buns 6 months or younger. I think a little presentation would be great as to why it's not a good idea to buy a rabbit or any animal on impulse - and that people really need to make a commitment if they decide to adopt a bun.

I find it quite odd that your 4H leader would compare horses to rabbits? That's a new one.

As for ideas - I'd make some flyers, write a small speech, I don't think it would have to be long. Explain about buns and impulse buying (ala Easter, or Christmas for that matter) and why it's not a good idea. And how to better prepare yourself for adopting a bun. Of course mention how wonderful buns are and that with the right care, commitment, and enviornment, buns are the best companions and friends there are. Hand out your printed flyers, they could be just of the campaign, I know there is stuff on their website. The House Rabbit Society has great flyers ready to be printed off their website :biggrin2:

Good luck!

Thanks! Ooh great ideas, thanks thats what I'll do!

Yeah it is odd that she compares them, but she does. She thinks rabbits are just like horses, besides the part about costs. She was SO shocked that rabbits didn't need shots, etc.

Our 4-H group did a "Rabbits & Easter Don't Mix" clinic with flyers from HRS. We had rabbits there for people to pet and we discussed the responsibilities of owning a rabbit.

It sounds like you are already on the right track and others have left some great ideas. I can't believe that your 4-H leader compares horses and rabbits. Maybe she should by the 4-H rabbit project manual and go through it herself! Ha! I've owned both and they are NOTHING alike, except that they both are fun to pet.

I REALLY like the YouTube.com idea. That isveryoriginal and I bet it would be a lot of fun to shoot a video with your bun(s). If your club, county or statehas a 4-H website that links to the 4-H rabbit project, you could have them link to the YouTube website for your informational video. That would be really cool. I saw one on there about the proper way to pick up and handle a bunny and I thought that was so neat and informative.

As for your 4-H club presentation, you couldput togetherin a PowerPoint presentation (with your video as one of the slides), posters, handouts, and even make or buy little chocolate bunnies to hand out as refreshments to tie it all together. Even bring your bun in for the live presentation and let everyone hold/pet him (or her). Every little thing like that makes it memorable for the people watching. The possibilities are endless!!!

Good luck and let us know how it all comes together! :biggrin2:

Oh wow thanks Pam! That sounds really cool...that's what I'm trying to do, I just didn't have a "word" For it, lol. Thanks! As far as rabbits being there, I think we're bringing Kalea so I guess that could work, since they'll all be adoring over her and the information should sink in more.

Thanks for the links Jam! I'll get right on working on this tomorrow (as it's too late now). I will let everyone see the video (if I make one) and know how this went.

Yeah I think posting the final project on youtube.com would let a lot of people know about it, etc. That's a great idea about bringing chocolate bunnies! I'll have to see if I can find some! :) Great idea!
Yup it's sad that she compares them to rabbits, lol. My 4-H leader isn't a great leader, I can tell you that. She really only cares about the horse kids, etc. She made a huge deal about how a rabbit (owned by FallingStar) and her daughter's horse shared the same name. It was really dumb.
