How offen do you cut your bunns nails

I cut storms nails for the first time like 3 weeks ago.

How offen do you do it?

And do I do it right?

I turn him on his back and have hubby hold him like a baby. Then I cut his nails takes 1 minute tops if that long. I have to cut my dogs nails once a month or so when they get there heartguard. Should I just sheduale him on the same day.

I do his sent glands and nails at the same time. So if you do those both probably once a month then you should be fine, but if you notice his nails seem to grow faster than that then you may have to do it more often.

Yeh, the scent glands are still there. They are either side of the anus. After neutering they often scent less, so may need less cleaning. I personally only clean them if they need it, otherwise I leave them. Some people use some sort of oil (hopefully someone will clarify what), but I just use warm water and a cotton bud (Q-tip? over there?). You just gently wipe in them.

I cut the nails as and when they need them. My outside buns need them doing less than my inside buns, but I do keep an eye on the dewclaw. Normally every 6 weeks or so, but sooner if needed.

Oh gosh haha i cleaned mine for the first time like three months ago, mind you i already had him for about 5 months, and man did they stink! :/ Now i make sure to at least check and see if they smell once a month. The first time ijust used water, didnt get the smell away very well just the gunk. The oil flashy is talking abou is mineral oil it helps get it all out.
If your husband is able to hold him upside down then you are going to have to find them, it may take a couple tries. Lol i couldnt find grasshoppers when i first got him.

his nails should be clipped when they get visable over his fur, or when he is on your bare skin and it hurts..

I do my buns nails about once every month or so - every three weeks sounds about right, so yes, you can probably schedule it with doing your dogs nails as well. Check them every 3 weeks, if they need to be done - great, if not, at least you've checked.

Cut just up to the quick (like the dogs) - and just cut as often as you need to. I usually do it whenever I remember or when I can hear their nails on the floor when they run.

OMG It looked like storms had never been clean and I now see the small uuuuuhhhhhh.

My bathroom sinks right now. It did not take that long and I did it by myself. Thats good to know. I havea head ache now LOL.:vomit:

Also, sounds like you're doing the cutting right. I try to do it by myself, since sometimes I do it at the shelter, so I trance them by putting them on their backs, then lie them between my legs (stretched out) so that I can hold on to their body with my knees (gently of course) while I cut. I also will hold a bunny under the shoulders with her feet on my thigh and cut one-handed (harder to do because you can't hold the nail in one hand and check for the quick and cut with the other) if the bunny won't trance.

But I will cut his nails on the first when i cut everyone nails they look fine. Bath day heartguard nail day and all that are hubbys last day off befor the first.

I will add sent glads then to. But sense I found them now I just did it. Holding him like a baby and cutting his nails is so easy. cause hubby can hold while I have 2 hands to cut.

I usually clip about once a month. If you are vigilant about keeping the nails clipped, you can get them shorter because the quick will recede.

Luckily the vet did Benjamin's today whilst he was under anesthetic he was (hence the was) such a naughty boy before his neuter today, hopefully the neuter will change him so I can clip his claws properly next time!

At this point I clip their nails whenever I go home from school, but I would say I was doing it every six weeks or so.
I usually trance/bunny burrito them and do one paw at a time.
When my mom does it she bunny burritos them and has her boyfriend hold the bun while she pulls out the paw and trims the nails, but trimming nails scares her. Still, I encourage her to do it as often as possible.
