How many leafs of Romain lettuce should he eat a day?

Finally got him off the iceberg lettuce as I hear it's not good for him and he loves the Romain. How many Romain leafs, (you know, the big leafs you tear off one by one) should he eat a day as a treat? Or can I include it as part of his diet along with that kibble stuff?

Haha Don't know, he's a lion head so he's real fluffy but he's a big boy he can eat 5 in one sitting.

Do you have any measuring cups? They are usually used for baking but it can help you get the perfect amount. As I said, because of your buns weight (3 pounds ish) he will need 1 and a half cups.

Ours get half a leaf daily with other veggies in the mix--one cup in the morning and one in the evening.

I know what a measuring cup is. XD. I think Ill just try a leaf a day. If he has a tantrum maybe two.

Recommended daily diet for a smaller rabbit would be...

- plain pellets (no colorful add-ins or seeds): 1/4 cup
- greens : 2-4 cups
- unlimited grass hay
- treat (fresh fruit or carrot) : 1-2 tbsp worth

Romaine is a good green to use. It is recommended to either alternate or mix it with other greens too. Just be sure to slowly introduce anything new by starting with small amounts until bunny's gut has time to get used to it.

You may want to try some green leaf lettuce or red leaf lettuce. Then, when you have romaine, just use that every day until it is gone. Then you can get a red leaf lettuce and do the same. This way bunny gets variety by alternating.

Once pellets have been reduced, it is equally important to make sure that fresh grass hay is available to the rabbit at all times, and that fresh vegetables be given in larger amounts than has previously been recommended (up to 2-4 cups a day).

Consider herbs -- cilantro (as Ruby99 mentioned), basil, parsley, mint, dill, oregano, rosemary

Also, green tops of carrots. And not daily but a few times per week -- kale, mustard greens, spinach.

Mine like the leafy parts of the celery even more than the stalk. If you feed the stalk too, be sure to cut it into 1" slices to keep those long strings from tangling in the gut.

You referred to lettuce as "treats." I thought people gave their rabbits lettuce as meals for breakfast and dinner. That's what I see in the educational videos. I do know people also provide hay all day long. I don't know what those same people have been doing since the recall. I don't even know when the recall will be over. I haven't seen much info about that. I don't have bunnies yet, so I don't know.

The best solution is to grow your own. Lettuce has got to be one of the easiest things to grow. You can grow it in pots if you don’t have a garden. Another super easy thing to grow is grass! Pet stores are a rip off when it comes to “cat grass”. Just put rye seeds in a plastic container with holes on the bottom and rinse it a couple of times a day. You can leave it right in you kitchen counter and it will grow super fast.

We grow wheat grass for our bunny and for our cats. Our bunny loves it but eats it faster tgan we can grow it, in the winter.

Mostly, yes. They narrowed it down to a few counties in CA, then to a specific farm & water source as possible origin. The agency has recommended "voluntary" labeling requirements, but they will not be enforced.

As the FDA has identified the locations of origin, the romaine being shipped now should be considered safe (as in the product entering the supply chain is not from the idenfied e. coli outbreak sources).
