We looked in the windows and stuff (probably illegal, but oh well) and the house looks nice inside...just needs wood flooring for sure...and probably appliances (but there is freecycle if need be).
The back yard was severely slanted and had all this wood wall stuff (which was falling over and needed to be gutted)...so the slant would be very terrible for dogs as well as children.
So, that house is a no-go.
We found another house right down the road from my dad's house that we are liking...

It is $189k and was just $200k last week or so! Our payments would be (including taxes and such) $1155. Maybe if we want a few months, the price will drop even more. The price is so cheap for such a nice house in that area...with 5 bedrooms!
We also found another home down the road from the one above with a guest house thing in the backyard (1bed 1 bath)...and it had a huuuuge block wall fence for our dog. I can't find the listing online now, for some reason.
ETA: Ryan said we might be able to talk with his grandparents about a small amount of money for a down payment or something...as they set up funds for the grand kids to use for college and Ryan definitely isn't going to go to college (just not for him).
