How Far Would You Drive OR Have Driven To Get A Bun?

Everything that I have looked at regarding bonding has mentioned the car rid stressing as a good way to bond 2 rabbits. I have not tried it with mine for many reasons including 1)they are not both spayed yet (working on it) 2)my rabbits are used to car rides (they are in the car for a minimum 3 hrs per week) 3)I do not have somebody to ride in the back watching them 4)I do not have a cage that I could put both of them in at the same time (my travel cage is a small 2 compartment show cage). Those are the main reasons why I have not tried it. I really hope that you find the perfect husbunny for Agnes.

Skyler flew from Pennsylvania to Anchorage by himself, then we drove down to Anchorage to pick him up from the airport. Spent the next 2 nights at my in-laws' house, then we drove back home with Skyler, which is a 7 hour drive. He did wonderfully on the flight and the drive :)

Agnesthelion, I know you said the single "wether" (goat breeder word for neutered buck) wasn't your type, but I have to play the devil's advocate here. When we got our polish doe, she was pretty skittish, she was a former brood doe who's handling consisted of having feed thrown in her dish once a day (if she was lucky). I got her for my fiance, and also for my dutch wether, Minion. She's 4.

More often than not, I've heard of friendly rabbits bringing shy or scared rabbits out of their shell. That's what happened with Minion and Nemesis. She is a whole new animal! She comes to the front of the cage for petting, snuggles on the bed with me, and puts up with my toddler. All because my 1 yr old dutch showed her that we were good people.

I suppose I can sympathize with "too big", but size doesn't make a difference to them as long as your careful through bonding. Once the stress of bonding is over, his size won't be an issue to your lady.

I started off with smaller rabbits, never knew what I was missing till I bought a harli, and subsequently a champagne d'argent (who was nippy and had to go), and now my beautiful teddy bears of englishes. Maybe you should just give him a chance :)

Btw, I bought Artemis as a meat rabbit from my brother before my son fell in love with her. That might be a rescue mission to consider...

@Shiloh...wow, that's quite the journey!

@dungeon. Totally get what you are saying and thanks for the tips. I won't rule out only because of skittishness, it's the size too. It has nothing to do with bonding, just my personal opinion. I like the dwarf buns. Some people like the flemishes and giants, others don't. :) and it's not that I have anything bad to say about the giants at all! I know they are gentle and have wonderful personalities.....it's just what I like. I've always, my entire life, been drawn to the smaller breeds. Plus, Agnes condo is a 3 story NIC cage that I would feel more comfortable in it supporting a dwarf rather than a giant.

Glad to hear your bonding brought the personality out of your bun :) and thanks again for your story and tips. Everyone's advice has been great and I'm reading them all and taking it all in :)

This is funny, and I perfectly understand, Lisa. (I'm actually one who prefers the larger buns.) But this story reminded me of my Gandalf.

You already know the story of my very first bonding experience yrs ago. Well, when I went back for the exchange, the boy I ended up bringing back was a french lop. At the time, I really didn't care for lops at all. I only liked the uppy ears. In fact, I thought Gandalf was just ugly:confused2: When I brought him home, even my husband said, "oh, no.:grumpy: What did you get?"

Ended up that Gandalf become our all-time favorite bunny. He was such a character and my husband still talks about him. Needless to say (but still surprisingly) we warmed up to lops.

I know what you mean about having preferences. I still don't think I could handle a bun with red eyes, for instance. And for me, my current buns are about as small as I'd prefer.

I'm so hoping you'll find what you're looking for. We're rooting for you! :party0002:

I hear you on the size preference. My fiance's adoration of all things ridiculously tiny is how we ended up with our Polish, despite that she's a false dwarf. I love my big buns, I'm so scared I'll squash the littler ones. But I'm actually considering buying a britannia petite buck who is slated for culling if the breeder can't sell him... He's from the same breeder I got my squishy lops from, so I'm hoping he has a similar personality, desppite what I hear about Brits.

That other idea was to call breeders and ask them about some of their culls, you never know what you may find! There are some beautiful rabbits put down just for being mis-marked!!!
