As some folks know - my window a/c for the rabbitry crashed about 48 hours ago. Last night Art got it working again.

All of the rabbits that were affected by this - only ate about 1/2 - 1/3 of their supper last night - but I'm thinking that is because it was so hot (compared to what they're used to).

For instance - I try to keep it around 75 - it was probably 92+ a lot of the day.

I'm wondering if I should give them their normal food portion tonight - or cut back a bit.

I do know if they don't start back at their normal amounts in about 2 days - I'll be upset - but for right now I'm leaning towards thinking it is the heat.

My rabbits run in spurts of eating and not eating. With mine, it is from the heat. It has hit 100 a few times up in New England and my rabbits don't have a/c or anything, they live outside. I do lower their daily amount of food and end up feeding them a little amount, twice a day. With the humidity, the food will go bad faster. I also give them more treats that they will eat to keep their gut moving.

If your rabbits COMPLETELY stop eating for more than a day, then you could have problems.

Thanks for the comments Sharon. Most of them ran right to their food last night after I posted. A couple of them sniffed at the food and turned away...but I noticed this morning that they did eat.

YEAH.

It's been hot and humid here, and some bunns aren't eating much. I give them carrots, apples, or greens. Gives them some additional moisture and keeps the gut moving along!

If it gets really hot, sometimes offering extra hay is best. I have a few rabbits who prefer to eat hay over pellets on hot summer days.
