I just checked my mail and saw that I had gotten my mini bales of hay in, so I decided to break open the oat hay for Holiday & Fiesta.

When I went into their room I noticed that Holiday had one of his ears down so I scratched it for him. He was THRILLED - so I scratched the other and his little back legs went nuts.

He couldn't give me enough licks fast enough!

Both ears smell fine, no discharge that I can see, but he was definantly needing a good scratching (something he cant do on his own).

When I left the room his ears were up but now I'm concerned. I dont want to run to the vet over every little thing so is there anything I can/should do in order to make sure the ear health is ok?

Fiesta shows no signs of any ear discomfort at all.

Firstly, look reeeeeaaaaally deep into the ear and see if you see any kind of evidence of mites. I'd take a flashlight.

But, rabbits can't groom behind their heads/ears. Maybe the back of his ears were just a little dirty and he needed a good scratch. Maybe it's because it's getting warmer.

When I had Pellette, who couldn't groom herself due the monstrosity that was her dewlap, she had little spots on her fur that she couldn't reach that she LOVED to be scratched more than anything else. After the reduction surgery, she groomed those spots like a madwoman/madbunny. (Maddoe?) There wasn't anything wrong with her skin- she just couldn't keep them clean.

If you're really worry about mites or something along those lines, you could give a dose of Ivermectin just to be safe.
