Hi Guys, My name is Mexie and I have a Flemish giant, Luna, who I rescued from Wellington City where her previous owner had "released her" into a nearby park, a Minilop, Hazel, who I rescued when she was brought in at 5 weeks old with the top part of her ear all fused together and dead (she now has 1 and a half ears!) And last but by no means least, Nyx, my blue Netherland dwarf, who I bought from a breeder.

Hi I have just joined RO. My name is jackie and I have kept rabbits for over 30 years now. Yesterday, however, I lost my most precious 'Cabbit'.
She had a long term Retrobulbar abscess. She was so special; shee thought she was a cat and lived with our three in the house.
I saw many vets about her eye and blocked tear ducts, (not caused by teeth roots) but only dared to try Baytril. Finally, 10 days ago, I decided reluctantly on the surgery to clean and irrigate as much as poss. It wasn't a success. She never really got over the stress and began eating cat food to avoid Baytril I guess. Suddenly she developed severe Diarrhoea, I rushed her to vets as although she wasn't too dehydrated, it was starting. However, apparently she died overnight. I am riddled with guilt that I couldn't save her and how she hated the vets and me treating that eye. Just feel so wretched and miserable without her. She even slept under my bed and survived a fox attack which claimed her sister. Why is nature so unfair? I have other rabbits but this one has hit me hard. I still need answers so I thought joining this group may help and be able to share similar experiences.
24 hours before she died she was hopping around actively. Why such a rapid decline?

So sorry to here about your bunny!! I guess it was her time, she did well to fight for so long, most bunnies would give up a lot sooner. She must have loved you lots, I hope she is at peace now.

Hi there,

Thanks for your kind message. I know in a way Cabbit took the decision to Euthanase out of my hands. I'd been told many times there is a limit to the treatment when you factor in a very highly stressed rabbit and the nature of the abscess, but I just could not give up hope.
I hope she knew this because she was so very special.

How many rabbits do you have and what types?

Speak soon,
Jackie

Let me welcome you to Rabbits Online, my name is Dave and I am a moderator on the forum. So if I can be of any help please let me know. This is a terrific website for rabbits and their slaves, not only is it very active but also friendly. I am so glad you’re here and I know you will enjoy it.

Many bunny's recommend their slaves to this site so we may learn of others methods to keeping our furry masters happy.

If you everhave a sick bunny, please post in The Infirmary and include your rabbit's age, breed and health history as well diet and output details leading up to the problem.

I have listed some links I thought you might find interesting:

*For reference the Library section

*To brag or tell everyone about the antics of your bunny or just to talk about your day here is where to start a Bunny Blog, you can also look back at it later and remember when you had a life before your bunny.

*Now all the bunny’s like talk to each other when we mere slaves aren’t around in the Bunny Chat is the spot to be.

*Rabbits Online also has regional forums , this a good way to find a vet in your area that has experience with rabbits and to find out from other nearby of good sources of rabbit supplies.

The Let Your Hare Down section is for anything non-bunny related.

Here is a link tothat will help you and your bunny to connect, How To Bond With Your Bunny.

Now every forum has rules and ours can be found with this link Rabbits Online Forum Rules. This gives guidelines on what is acceptable, what is not and how we hope everyone will treat each other.

Everyone on this forum loves to see pictures of each other’s bunnies. So if you would like to post a picture this link will help you do that, Upload Photo's to Photo Gallery. Then in the post, you click on the "G" in the tool bar to insert your photo. Many people also use Photobucket. You just copy the img file and paste it into the post.

I am glad you have joined rabbits online and I look forward to seeing you around.
