I went up to Syracuse to the New York State Fair this Sunday. It was the usual stuff... Dinosaur barbeque (try the pterodactyl wings) ...

There were about 500 rabbits in the show, including some unusual ones, and a few breeds I hadn't seen before. In alphabetical order, then...

American Fuzzy Lop:

Of course, there were lots of Dutch rabbits, in all colors...

English Angora (no, really - there's a bunny in all that fur):

This one was in the running for Best of Show - we got acquainted while the judges were finishing up, and he just loved nose pets...

Lucky you! After getting Thumper and just falling in love with him I have become very interested in all buns. I wanted to go to our state fair last year and anxiously waited for it to arrive. Unfortunately I di not get to go. This year hubby and the girls were going to be racing at a county fair and I checked and yes they would have rabbits. Unfortunately Thumper was not wanting to eat so I stayed home to nurse him. It was well worth it to me though, he's definitely more important then going to see some other buns. I'm afraid to even start looking forward to the state fair this year. But thank you for sharing some of the fair with us all.

The English Angora looks like a stuffed animal. :)

Did the one running for best of show really need it's back nails trimmed or am I seeing things wrong?

Love, love, love the expression you captured on the broken brown tort. I can see why you like the breed if you get to see that kind of expression. I would like to gently snuggle my face into them all.

The Netherland Dwarfs were also there in quantity:

There were quite a few Polish this year - here are a few:

Although these were in the same row of cages as the Polish rabbits above, the concensus on RO amongst those who know such things is that these are really Netherlands Dwarfs. Cute, either way...

This young Spot kept chasing after all the other rabbits on the Best of Show judging table. (corrected identification)
satin_7396.jpg

Another broken-pattern Satin (I know he looks like an English Spot, but there were a whole row of rabbits with this pattern which had judging slips as Satins - this one got a blue ribbon):

Another Satin, in Californian fur:

Spot (he stuck his nose through the bars, and settled in for at least ten minutes worth of nose pets - I can't take pictures all the time)

Finally, they had this sign posted by the door - I never knew that Cortland County, where I live, is #1 in New York state for rabbits (38% of all rabbits sold in NY state come from Cortland County)

Sounds & looks like you had a hopping good time at the fair, Mike! lol Almost makes me want to go to our state fair, almost! lol Would have loved to see all those buns in person! Thanks for sharing your bunny fair visit with us!

Wish I knew why the images aren't showing for me... :( Sounds like you had fun though.

I've been wanting to to to several rabbit shows but each one seems its always timed on the weekends my wife works. I was making tentative plans to got to the ARBA show in PA but again the wife is working. It so happens next weeks Cortland NY Flemish special falls on an off weekend so I'm planning to go but as much as I love Flemish I was hoping for a bit more variety since my two keep me happy.

Great pics Mike! Exactly what I wanted to see. I happened to be in San Diego for their big state fair a 2 years back and saw all the lovely animals, but back then I wasnt as knowledgable of rabbits as I am now nor had I found my love for them. Its funny now that Im bun crazy I cant seem to go to these shows! Glad you could share.

So cute and ahh there's a tan! Oh on post #8 that first rabbit is a chocolate English spot

And the two right above that one looks like a broken black otter and an orange Netherland dwarf. Polish do not come in orange or black otter

Next time there is a fair near me, I will definitely be going! Thats awesome to see all the different breeds, I love it!

The best of running breed, what is that? A Belgian? Its pretty!

If you say so. He was in the judging area, so there wasn't any label to go by. The woman who was keeping the bunnies in their slots wasn't really sure but thought it was a satin.

That is odd, since I'm sure the judging slips on those said they were Polish. I know the one nibbling the judging slip was, since I read the slip, and the other two pictures are two or three image numbers apart, so they'd have been in adjacent cages. The Netherland Dwarfs were against the front wall of the building, in another area entirely - in the pictures you can see the cinder blocks behind the ND's, while the ones labeled Polish are all in free-standing rows.

I was going to say the exact same thing lol.

No that one definitely is an English he has a full arch.

Maybe they were a polish but unrecognized colors. woahlookitsme is correct polish don't come in orange and broken black otter. Recognized varieties in polish are black, blue, chocolate, broken in those varieties, BEW and REW. Maybe one side of the Netherlands was open and the others were youth? Or maybe they ran out of room.

Otherwise looks like fun! My local fair is about 200 rabbits I couldn't imagine a show with 500! I would have to bring a wire riser but I would love to attend that show, seems like tons of fun!

There's a fair coming next month and we go at least once. We always stop in the building where they bunnies, piggies and poultry are in cages. Love seeing the colors and breeds that aren't so common especially as pets. There's usually a few for sale or already sold. :bunny16

Quite possible. I never can tell a Polish from an ND without a scorecard.

Oh, I miss Syracuse and the state fair!! I so loved going and petting all the bunnies! Because of the NY State fair, I have always wanted a Californian, since I fell terribly in love with one when I was in college, visiting the fair!
