No here there are no rescues, purebreeds are nearly impossible to come by, we have no rabbit clubs or associations and my petshop owner was asking me do I breed rabbits.
Very much my experience too!!!!

Probably just as well. If i lived in the States and I saw all these adorable bunnies in the shelters - I'd probable have a few dozen by now. At least this way i don't get tempted to often to get a new rabbit... But it would be great if there were some rabbit clubs around to share the passion

On december 1st she will be over 6 months old.

Phew, for a second there I thought there was a big chance of them being born with defects and I couldn't understand why since practically all rabbits here are mixed breeds, it will be extremely difficult for me to track down a purebred lionhead buck and even then chances are I won't be able to get much info on their background :(. I try my best anyway if I can at least see it's parents I'll settle for that, I might need to post pics of some bucks and see what ye think before I get it.
If you go to yahoogroups.com and do a search for "lionheadrabbitusa" - you'll find the lionhead list and you can find breeders on there all over the United States that are selling lionhead bucks. The prices can vary from as low as $25 to $200 or more - but they can start low and you don't need a show quality "top of the line" lionhead buck.

Plus you'll usually get a pedigree that will tell you about their history.

One of my favorite breeders is selling a bunch of rabbits right now...

The prices listed are without shipping as they are in the Pacific Northwest. However, their prices are pretty typical for a decent lionhead buck.

I don't really fancy shipping a poor bunny.

They sure didn't realise where you were located. If you can't get another lionlop locally I can keep an eye out here. At least that woudn't involve crossing an ocean :D
PS. If Lint was a male I would have offered his services...

Actually, members have moved many rabbits 100s of miles here on RO, from shelters where they were slated to die to their new loving homes. Done correctly, shipping is not a horrific experience for the rabbit.

Yes but none of those lovely purebreds are n danger of being killed, I woudn't know how to go about it and it would cost a fortune lol.

You would be able to get one over from either england or Scotland. I know the show we have on next saturday a lot of Irish people come to and thats how they started getting their stock. One of the best people I know over here is Val she is really nice and I am sure she would be able to sort something out with you for shipping over as thats not very far and also some people go over to shows in parts of Ireland so that could be another option for you if you want any details pm me :)

Would you keep me updated too. I would love to go to a rabbit show some time and learn more about rabbits that way. We just have nothing like it here in Ireland. I only know of one breeder who is getting is Dutch rabbits from England. There must be some sort of network here too

Its no problem :DI do know that part of Ireland is regulated by the BRC and there are shows going on in some places as one of teh guys I know went over to a show somewhere but i don't know where it was :p

I'd love to know where there are bunny shows in Ireland, but they are all probably in Northern Ireland since I never hear of them here and the BRC run them, and I'm no where near there :(

Hey no I appreciate it,

I'm going to get a lionhead buck out of the money I make out of this litter, I plan to breed her on the 1st of December. I'm aware of all those risks, I would keep any bunnies that had problems but I have checked all mine for teeth problems and all that and I'll do it again before I breed.

I have to mention a couple of things here....

As others have said, breeding is not profitable--that means that you very likely will have LESS money after the litter than you do now. Also, since you don't know the parentage on your bunnies, the fact that your bunnies teeth, etc, are fine, doesn't mean their babies teeth will be. I know you mentioned that a petstore owner was asking if you breed your rabbits-- I hope that doesn't mean you were planning on giving/selling your babies to a petstore?

No I'd never sell to a petshop and from all the breeding websites and from reading other breeders site I know there is no profit :)
