hi all.
this morning around 7 am my husband noticed that maggie, our mini rex, is not acting herself. She did not eat any breakfast and only wants to sprawl out.
So this morning I have been keeping a close eye on her. She seemed a little cold so I put her in the bed with me, and she relaxed, purred, sprawled for about an hour. Then she started to get restless so I brought her back to her cage area, gave her a bowl of water and took her food bowl out of her cage. She just ran to the heater and got comfortable over there.

Last night at about 1130/12 she ate about 3 baby carrots but nothing since. Everything before that was totally normal. She does have a few faint gas sounds in her belly. I think, I can barely hear them.

It seems a little like statis, which General our other mini rex, went through about a year ago. Is there anything else it could be I should watch out for. Any recommended treatments? She doesn't like pumpkin.

Thanks for your help!!

Sounds like gas.If she's sprawling out and pressing her tummy down, and she's been pooping and peeing normallyup until she stopped eating, more likely to begas than stasis (although stasis can cause gas, andgas can cause stasis,so....)

But for now it sounds like you're doing the right things. I'd give her a few good doses of Simethicone (she's noton any other drugs Itrust?), massage her tummy and/or get her moving around or give her vibration therapy (I use a vibrating toothbrush, but you can put her on a dryer or even take her for a car ride), and keep her warm.

Usually they feel better after theSimethiconeand massages, but the gas seems to reform.I wouldn't force feed her anything, just keep hay and maybe some herbs around, andif she'll take some Pedialyte or even just water without a fuss, even better. (She should still drink on her own).

I wouldn't panic quite yet. They usually don't last much more than a few hours, I've had them go 12 hours.

Let us know how she's doing.

Hi! Please also do read the articles for GI stasis and gas in the Rabbit Health section of our Library. They are extremely helpful and detailed and you'll read there what, practically, everybody does and should do when facing either of these common problems.

Monitor her closely and revert. Try to entice her to eat hay, a bit of pellets, no sugary veggies, no fruits. Keep her warm -not hot-and, otherwise, go as per Pipp's advice.

Thanks for the great information. Maggie appears to be back to normal (she is sitting on my shoulder now). I just massaged her tummy and she didn't need any meds.
I guess we are a little overly sensitive since General has his statis.
Thanks again!!!!

GI stasis and the onset of gas is very scarey! Youre good to be alarmed and take action. A lot of times these dont ever become a problem when we notice them so early. Youre a good bunny slave :)
