I have a male rabbit and a female rabbit, I have been putting them together on and off since July because I didn't know if she was pregnant or not. The past two times I have put them together they mated more than once. When I separate them the female does nothing. I need help and guidence on what to do. PLEASE HELP!

They're together as of right now, and I think they have been mating more, *WHAT IS THE BEST THING FOR ME TO DO?

I think more info will help you get the help you need.
What breed are your rabbits?
Are they purebred/pedigreed?
How old are they?
Why are they being bred?
Do you have homes lined up for the babies?
There is way more to breeding then just putting a boy and girl together, like did you know dwarf genes can create a lethal combo?
Please seperate them and do some research before you jump in and make more rabbits.

She has not had babies yet but they're separated as of today! So do I just leave them separated, if so for how long? Thanks Everyone this is really helping me!

Yes I have room for babies, and yes the female is in one cage and the male is in another.

You will have too keep them seperated until you have your male neutered. Male and females can not live together if they are both intact, they will have back to back litters until the female dies.
What breed are they?
How old are they?
Do you have anyone lined up to adopt them yet?
Do you plan to have them both fixed?
What are your breeding goals?

Why do you think it is important for her to have babies? As soon as she is fixed that urge to mate will go away. Right now it is the hormones making her crazy. The sooner she is fixed the safer it is to prevent cancer.

BTW, Welcome to RO :)

A lot offirst time mothers end up not having the know-how to raise a litter of kits, and first time litters often die. There are also the possibilities of stillborn or deformed babies, or your pet female rabbit having trouble or dying during the birth process. Your doe's personality could change after having a litter as well.

Depending on where you got your rabbits from, they could have potentially serious genetic defects that they will pass on to their babies, such as malocclusion. If you did not get your bunnies from a reputable breeder with their pedigrees, they should not be bred for this reason alone.

How old are your rabbits? If your doe is too young to be bred, you could potentally be killing her by getting her pregnant. Just because she can get pregnant at a young age doesn't mean she should.

You should have prepared and done your research before putting your rabbits together. There are so many things that can go wrong. :(

Breeding rabbits is a huge responsibility. I breed rabbits as a hobby and have for many years, almost my whole life, as my parents and grandparents did as well.
Currently I raise purebred Holland Lops that are pedigreed and from reputable show breeders. This is important as I know the parents, grandparents and even great grandparents of my rabbit were healthy and had no genetic problems like malloclusion (where the teeth grow uncontrollably due to not lining up properly, this can kill them) along with other even more serious issues.

Because your doe is most likely already pregnant all you can do is separate them and wait 30 days. If after 30 days your rabbit did not have babies she was not pregnant. Please do not breed them if they are not both from experienced breeders. Keep them separate and enjoy them as pets!

We got an accidental litter of babies... the only reason why they made it is because this is her second litter. Its very hard to find homes for baby bunnies. not every one can have them. It is a HUGE responsibility and you have to understand that they can have a lot of babies! Our mini lop only had one the first time around, but this time she had six!

Be sure you know what your getting into...

We didn't think shed have babies cause they only mated once... but a month later she was trying to nest and then she pooped out a baby! and then came the other 5!

I bid you good luck though!

Let me welcome you to Rabbits Online, my name is Dave and I am a moderator on the forum. So if I can be of any help please let me know. This is a terrific website for rabbits and their slaves, not only is it very active but also friendly. I am so glad you’re here and I know you will enjoy it.

The only reason anyone should want to breed rabbits is to add qualities that improve the particular breed and variety. To breed just to have baby's is not recommended. It is difficult to find good homes for all of them and you may have them for many months while you do try and find homes, so you will need to have multiple cages also. I am by no means telling you what you should or not do. I am just giving you my experience from being a breeder.

Many bunny's recommend their slaves to this site so we may learn of others methods to keeping our furry masters happy.

If you everhave a sick bunny, please post in The Infirmary and include your rabbit's age, breed and health history as well diet and output details leading up to the problem.

I have listed some links I thought you might find interesting:

*For reference the Library section

*To brag or tell everyone about the antics of your bunny or just to talk about your day here is where to start a Bunny Blog, you can also look back at it later and remember when you had a life before your bunny.

*Now all the bunny’s like talk to each other when we mere slaves aren’t around in the Bunny Chat is the spot to be.

*Rabbits Online also has regional forums , this a good way to find a vet in your area that has experience with rabbits and to find out from other nearby of good sources of rabbit supplies.

The Let Your Hare Down section is for anything non-bunny related.

Here is a link tothat will help you and your bunny to connect, How To Bond With Your Bunny.

Now every forum has rules and ours can be found with this link Rabbits Online Forum Rules. This gives guidelines on what is acceptable, what is not and how we hope everyone will treat each other.

Everyone on this forum loves to see pictures of each other’s bunnies. So if you would like to post a picture this link will help you do that, Upload Photo's to Photo Gallery. Then in the post, you click on the "G" in the tool bar to insert your photo. Many people also use Photobucket. You just copy the img file and paste it into the post.

I am glad you have joined rabbits online and I look forward to seeing you around.
