Hi,

I brought 2 rabbit's recently (black and a white one). However, around a week ago the black rabbit
• Started losing fur (around neck and body)
• I can see white patches around its body and ear
The white one however has no signs of any infection (Thought they have been together for the past 1 month)

I had taken the rabbit (black) to a Vet and he had suggested that it might be a worm infection. So he suggested Avalben (Albendazole suspension). and also nutritional supplement Vimeral (Vitam A, Vidamin D, Vitam E and Vitamin b12). Also, he had provided a suspension (don't know the name) to apply on its body with a brush (Which I have been applying for the past 3 days).
However, even after administering the worm solution and the supplement - I don’t see any improvement in my rabbit’s condition. Look like there are not many vets here in India specializing in rabbits :grumpy
I have attached snaps of the bunny.
• Has anyone come across a similar situation?
• Could you please suggest a course of action to be taken and how long it would take for complete cure?
• Should I isolate the black rabbit (separate the black bunny and the white bunny)
• Any vaccination that I can give for the black bunny?:?
Thanks in advance for the help

Do you have Revolution (the cat/dog dewormer) where you live? Or access to it online?

I think it is most likely mites, which can be cleared up with that.

http://www.medirabbit.com/Safe_medication/Anti_parasitics/safe_antiparasitic.htmI agree withOak Ridge ; Revolution can be ordered online from some companies without a prescription ; the generic name for revolution is selamectin ( maybe your vet has it as it is used for dogs and cats and off label for rabbits )

the dosage is 6 mg /kg (a kg =2.2lbs)
This drug is relatively safe for rabbit and can be repeated in a month if needed. it is applied to the skin at the nape of the neck

Most anti-parastitcs over the counter are very dangerous for rabbits and can actually have fatal consequences so be sure to check with us before you apply anything else.
Albon is used for internal parasites and other illnesses ( ecuniuli) but not fur mites

It looks like fur mites to me, or maybe ear mites. I would try to get revolution (selamectin) or advantage (imidacloprid) first. Do not use Frontline (fipronil). The other option for external parasites is ivermectin, but it has some serious side effects if overdosed or if your rabbit has a genetic susceptibility to it. My rabbit (the dutch, Tony) has that genetic susceptibility, and nearly died from a "routine" administration of ivermectin that caused zero problems in his bondmate, Muffin, the lop. If you want to use ivermectin, I am sure you can find it in India, maybe even at a human pharmacy, but it is important NOT to overdose and to make sure there is no Dutch, albino, or blue-eyed white in the rabbit's genetic background.
