Hi,
I'm a new rabbit owner. I have had my rabbit, Frederick, for about 3 weeks now. He is a house rabbit and up until recently we have been going great. Although the other day he began to pee on my bed. He was well litter trained up to this point and we'd had no accidents at all. I don't know what to do! I have kept him limited mostly to his cage this weekend to reiterate his litter training and he seemed better but as soon as he went on my bed he peed again!! I have used an enzymatic cleaner in order to remove all smell to prevent him thinking it's his spot but it isn't working, what should I do??

I also wondered if it has something to do with him being an unneutered buck, is he being territorial? I'm planning on getting him neutered but I wanted to sort all his vaccines first.

Thanks for any help!

Bex

First off, use vinegar, it's a territorial bunny slave's best friend.

He's reaching the human equivalent of the 'terrible teens'.

He will get over it, but I'd get him neutered ASAP if you want to avoid this and similar problems like spraying, etc. Its harder to stop it completely once they start.

Pipp was ridiculous when she hit puberty. Constantly peed on my bed, got all hormonal building nests, nipping me, very hyper. I ended up putting a litter box on my bed, which she used. I eventually moved it back onto the floor and she moved with it.

She went back to her lovey dovey little self about three weeks after she was spayed. Probably would have lasted a couple of months without the spay. But it does go away.

I think its the primary reason so many bunnies get dumped around that four to six month mark. Breeders and pet stores should really mention this.

Good luck!

PS: Can you put your location in your profile? I assume you're in UK. Bunnies don't need (or can't get) vaccinations in N.A. or Australia.

And welcome to RO! :welcome1 :hello

Hi!

Yes I am in the UK. He's had his myxamatosis vaccine and will shortly be having his VHD one. I will book him in for his neuter asap. I'm at the vets on wed with my rats so I will talk to them then about it.

He tends to leave pellets all over the place too, would you think this will improve with a neuter as well? I presumed a lot of it was linked to territorial behaviour.

And as far as the bed goes, should I just not let him up for now??

He will definitely improve with the neuter. :)

The bed is your call. I suffered through it and just did a lot of vinegar spraying and laundry. (I love bunnies on my bed). ;)

It will improve with time as well. My Flemmie just stopped peeing on the couch after about a month. (No lasting stains thanks to the vinegar).
