He was only 1 yr and 9 mos old. He left behind Sapphire who is 1 yr, 8 mos.

The vet is supposed to call Saturday...

Well, the vet called me back. To sum up...
-Could've been severe intestinal infection or
-a rupture of intestinal tract or
-perforated organ.
-He is not interested in doing a necropsy.
-He's confident it's nothing contagious and that Sapphire is not at risk.
-It was just 'one of those things.'
-It was unusually fast but not unheard of for GI stasis to kill in 24 hours.

None of that was informative or conclusive. :grumpy:

What do you all think?

He sounds like a pretty unknowing vet to me. Do you have any more rabbit vets in your area? I would try to look. I don't like how he/she don't even want to know what they missed. So sorry to hear about your rabbit

I was disappointed with his response. He came highly recommended by a rabbit rescue group. He seemed to know a bit about GI stasis and knew how important it was to control the pain. Nevertheless, I'm not happy with him not being interested in checking out what it could've been.

I would say try to find someone else, there is no point in spending so much money for someone that is supposed to be caring for your animals but doesn't want to do the job right.
