I have a gray dutch bunny who up until 3 days ago was vibrant and alive. He has a hutch, but is allowed to run free in our rabbit-secure backyard during the day. 3 days ago, I noticed that he was walking on 3 legs, keeping her front right leg tucked underneath her.
I examined him, gently cradling him upside down like a baby to inspect the foot. The leg had no visible injury. I gently applied pressure, pulled on the leg, and gave gentle squeezes starting at the paw and moving all the way up to the shoulder. At no point did this illicit a response, either with pain/a yelp or a quickening of breath.
His eyes had a white milky discharge from his tear ducts which had hardened. I used a warm cloth to remove the buildup and applied an ointment of terramycin to the eye to fight a possible infection. Have done this several times each day the last 3 days.
This morning, he was flat in the hutch with his hind legs to one side and nearly immobile. He would only propel himself around the cage with his (apparently now) one good front leg, but unable to lift his body to get water or food. With the extreme heat in my region, I will need to monitor and care for him inside so its cold.
Any thoughts or opinions on what might be happening or how to treat him? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am unable to afford a vet at this time.
