Hello all. I got up this morning to the doorbell frantically ringing, I answer it, it's a construction worker holding a tiny little bunny. He says him and the other guys say three Gophers attacking and dragging it (Oh no bacteria!!) and so they rescued it. They had it for one night and fed it 2% milk:shock: And then brought it here because I "Know how to raise stuff" (Kittens, Puppies, Squirrels, Skunks, etc) But this is my very first rabbit! I got it into one of my incubators (Yes, I have several lol) and fed it 25% K.M.R (I hope that's okay, I also have Esibliac and Goatsmilk in my freezer.) and 75% Pedialyte. It's very small and I'm pretty sure not a wild/native rabbit. (It's black and white) I know NOTHING about sexing, aging, feeding, etc. Please help!

Also, please don't tell me to go to a vet. I'm 16 and have no way of getting there.

So your saying it's over 4-6 weeks? What HOUSEHOLD things could I use to supplement it's diet until Wednesday? I live in a tiny town 100 miles from the nearest pet food store. What should I feed him? (I think it's a boy)

Whatever you do, do not overfeed the baby bunny, thats what most deaths of orphans are caused by, at least thats what i remember reading anyways. maybe someone here knows exactly how much food to give in the morning and evening, but only feed maximum twice a day. i would call some of the nearest vet clinics to see if anyone knows anything else about raising orphan bunnies (maybe tell them it isnt a wild bunny, it is domestic, then they wont tell you to just put it back where you found it, which wouldn't work anyways, lol), or find some breeder numbers, they might have some tips for you too

Wow good luck with your new baby!! You have at least come to a great place to find out what to do. Lots and lots of knowledgable people here

Is there a feed store in your town (that sells hay and stuff for people who have cows or horses)? If so - get some hay for the bunny - that is the best thing at this age.

I'd also use KMR (kitten milk replacer) but I hate the Hartz brand - I prefer the actual "KMR" brand. Do you have a vet who might carry some of this on hand?

Can you get a weight on the bunny? That might help us establish age.

Also - DO NOT give it fruits or vegetables at this time.

Please do not feed ANYTHING but goats milk.

KMR and baby formula and "milk" will dehydrate and kill this baby as the molecules in it even when broken down are to big(you'll know this by recalling everpuking up milk products). Goats milk breaks down into very very small molecules so bunny is able to digest it.

Goats milk must be fed ONLY twice a day-Usually 6AM and 9PM(that is when Momma does it). You must add PROBIOTICS to the feeding. I use "Garden of Life" PerfectFood Berry with 1 billion prob. per unit. You can use benenac but in fact the PFB is better-too there now is a new PROBIO out for bunnies specifically...called Proviable-RB.

Plz also dont use yogurt to get probios into baby.

Plz know, It can take 30 minutes to get down one CC of goats milk many times-esp. if baby is dehydrated and malnourished when you are starting to feed.

Ck babies skin for tenting/dehydration. If skin stays tented baby needs subque fluids ASAP to save her. You can try syringeing water but best to get to a vet to do sub que unless you know how and have a bag, hose and small guage needle.

You must feed baby till belly is rounded and firm. You must then stimulate baby to potty by gently taking a cottonball warmed up/wettened with water and make sure baby pottys.

Do this before and after feedings.

Baby is less likely to eat if she has not pottied.

This baby looks between 2 and 3 weeks.

After you get 2 good feedings in and you start seeing some pills, please take magnifying glass and flashlight and look deep into ears and all over by groin and in between toes for tics and botfly strike. Look daily for at least 2 weeks.Keep quaretined from all other animals and keep baby in dark and quiet area.Ck for fleas also which can only safely be treated with Orvitrol. Spray 2 spurts on wet warm washclothe and gently rub all over baby including inside little ears and on belly but stay away from eyes and mouth.

Even at this young age it is best to offer and have available in enclosure with baby, alfalfa based pellets, alfalfa hay, regular timmy hay in by baby and a water bottle.I also count about 7-10 cherios(so I can keep track if baby does munch some on her own)and a teaspoon of whole oats and put them in with baby.

You will be surprised at how young they will begin to feed themselves-that does not mean they can go without syring feedings and probios which their Momma would have dlivered to them if she was still with baby.

I would also pick and wash dandilions greens, fresh grass, a little parsley and add it to babies safe place.Fill hay up over babies head so baby can burrow but make water bottle and food place known to baby.

I AM PRAYING FOR YOU LITTLE BUNNY....

OH and please please look for puncture wounds, degloveing or any bleeding in which case baby will need antibiotics ASAP.
NOT triple antX though-You can use raw unpasturized unfiltered Manuka Honey to help with bacteria on any wounds but still you/baby bunny will need an oral antX(and again probiotics w/ the goats milk feedings either 2 hours before or two hours after twice daily oral antx ...AntX given within 2 hours of goatsmilk/probio feedings-***milk or any dairy product*** will render antX useless.

I literally have done hundreds of NEWBORNS domestics and wilders here....Have 23 here now as a matter of fact, 13 wilders and 5 baby domestics dropped off at 2 weeks old and about the size of your little one:))) Prescious arent they?
I was a vet tech for 15 years as well. If there is something you dont understand from what I wrote, please ask.
I reread what I wrote here and it may be confusing to someone that is not bunny baby familiar maybe.
Is there any bun rescues around you?
You can plunk in your zip/town/state etc on Petfinder and plug in rabbits to find a rescue close to you that may indeed help you save this baby.
Do you know if there are siblings(I am sure there are/has to be)?
A Momma or a Daddy somewhere around the same area this one was found?
Gosh I wished you would ask the guys that brought this darling to you.
No way would this domestic dutch baby be out in the wild alone...no way.
Please update us as I know we all want to see how baby is doing:))
